Should men remove body hair?

Benny91 · 21/06/2026 15:52

As most of the people I know (men) have removed all the body hair including on the legs.

I however, have a hairy chest, back, under arms, and legs. Is that ok?

Is it a trend nowadays to be a hairless man?

what are your thoughts?

There isn’t an option for no hair removed or for whatever the chap himself prefers

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/06/2026 17:30

Unless you are a swimmer training for the Olympics then it's a "no" from me .
DH has chest/leg/arm/armpit and back (yes , back hair )
Our adult DS is a furry little creature too , including beard'n'tasche

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 21/06/2026 17:30

Nothing should be removed. Although I don’t like armpit hair but I would expect it to be shaved unless the man wanted to

The only man’s body hair I care about is DH’s. I prefer it when he trims pubes, chest, tummy and pits a bit. Not all off but a bit shorter and neater. I will wax his back and shoulders now and again. Legs as nature intended, which in his case is hairy. If he’s going to wear sandals, then a pedicure which includes threading his toes is well-mannered in my view.

Davros · 21/06/2026 17:33

Keep it all but get rid of those sodding beards

BigSkies2022 · 21/06/2026 17:34

Ooh, and I like his hairy arms. Especially when he wears a nice watch, not one of those stupid Apple things.

Imaginary86 · 21/06/2026 17:38

I would find it weird if my husband shaved or waxed his legs

Rozendantz · 21/06/2026 17:41

I like hairy men, DH resembles a yak! I wouldn't be a fan if he decided to get rid of it, but it's his body and he can do whatever he wants with it thankfully he's far too lazy to bother

Bigearringsbigsmile · 21/06/2026 17:41

I think men, like women, should do whatever is most comfortable for them.

On a personal level, if my dh started removing any body hair other than his facial hair, it would give me the ick.

But beards are 🤢

Kalanthe · 21/06/2026 17:41

It’s perfectly fine to be very hairy on legs, arms and back, but I do ask my husband to trim the hair on his chest (not shave completely) and shave his armpits and buttcrack for hygiene

monicaspurpledoor · 21/06/2026 17:43

Keep it all xx

JLou08 · 21/06/2026 17:44

Men and women should do whatever they want with their own body hair.
Anecdotally, under arm hair can lead to more perspiration and BO, so we could probably all do with getting rid of that in the summer.

OutOfApricots · 21/06/2026 17:44

People should be able to decide what to do with their own body hair, and not be swayed by convention or other people's expectations.

OriginalSkang · 21/06/2026 15:53

You dont have a keep all body hair option, which is what I'd choose

This! I like a hairy man and hairless men give me the ick tbh…

Oh yes! I retract my earlier opinion because I agree about the sodding beards.

isnt it that amount you sweat stays the same but the hair helps to keep you cooler in the heat which would be healthier - helps wick the sweat off the skin

also I think it’s sweaty skin not sweaty hair that smelly bacteria might grow on so BO shouldn’t be any worse with hairy arm puts . Sweat itself shouldn’t smell.

but it’s hard to work out as there is so much rubbish information out there. Some of it doubtless put out by the hair removal companies

Snufkin88 · 21/06/2026 17:51

My dh has hairy arms, legs, chest and back and I couldn’t give a shit honestly. I don’t see anything wrong with it . The only thing I have an issue with is visible nostril hair which he doesn’t have but I’ve seen it in some older men. That has to go .

BinBasedKarma · 21/06/2026 17:58

It's up to you, but if you don't shave under your arms, deodorant won't work properly.

Away with those sodding beards.

I've not read any research, it's just a personal experience. I discussed with friends and they'd experienced the same. I suppose it is the same way you get more sweaty with your hair down covering your neck rather than having it tied up.

completelylostagain · 21/06/2026 18:00

You need a vote for ‘IF THEY WANT TO’

DustyMaiden · 21/06/2026 18:01

Whatever they want.

I’m not sure about that.

Anecdotally, I shave my armpits and my DH does not. I have had real battles at various times in my life with armpit sweat and BO, whereas I have literally never smelt BO from my DH’s hairy pits in the 28 years we’ve been together. (We both shower daily and use deodorant/anti-perspirant).

My sweat problem is usually linked to anxiety, nothing to do with hair.

Nincompoo · 21/06/2026 18:21

If they want to - same as women!

I prefer a hairy man, hairier the better, imo, but what people do with their own hair is entirely their business.

backformoreofthesame · 21/06/2026 18:25

With the back of your neck , having hair up allows the sweat to evaporate more easily

under your arms it’s harder for the sweat to evaporate as your arm pits are not exposed to the air on the same way - hence the hair helps pull the sweat off to aid cooling
