Thank you. My dd & OH were going to take me on a surprise trip for my birthday. I thought I'd better ask what it is. Turns out it was a trip to London to see the show. I know everyone's opinion is different but I told them please dont waste your money as I'm pretty sure I won't like it. If you hadn't mentioned it I would have gone along with it as I'd never even heard of it then. So thank you again! I don't tend to find theatre shows very funny anyway. I'm a tough crowd 🤣

How do you know you won’t like it? I’d be rather sad if my mum rejected a surprise trip like this.

OutOfApricots · 21/06/2026 16:50

Operation Mincemeat the musical is supposed to be rather good.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 21/06/2026 16:51

You might’ve had enjoyed it.

I once went to a Sing-A-Long The Sound Of Music and I can honestly say it was one of the best nights of my life.

SideboobToYouToo · 21/06/2026 16:52

I love the theatre, and I have no wish to see this.

LilacDrift · 21/06/2026 16:53

I wouldn't not go to something just because someone on MN said it was crap.

Rizzz · 21/06/2026 16:54

I know everyone's opinion is different

Wow, and yet you placed so much trust in the opinion of a random, anonymous stranger 😳

I hope you did further research that you're going to drip-feed in?

soonami · 21/06/2026 16:54

Everyone is different. I thought Titanique was hilarious! I didn’t know what to expect and I’m certainly not a big Celine Dion fan but it was lots of fun.
But if it’s not your thing, I’m glad you managed to intercept the surprise 😊

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 21/06/2026 16:56

I said on the Strictly thread it looked really bad based on a showcase they did on one Sunday result show. It really didn’t sell it and was actually off putting. Did you see something else instead?

Silverbirchleaf · 21/06/2026 16:57

Lots if people love the show. Shame you missed out on one bad review.

Callmeback · 21/06/2026 16:57

I thought it was really funny. Really enjoyed it.

pilates · 21/06/2026 16:58

Not sure I would have taken credence to some random on MN.

Namechange1345677 · 21/06/2026 17:00

You missed out! It's hilarious!

You shouldn't take one bad review as gospel. I bet your family are a bit upset that you did this.

ChaToilLeam · 21/06/2026 17:01

Not the sort of trip I would enjoy either. Just as well you asked!

KrazyKatty · 21/06/2026 17:02

Luckily my family know I hate all musicals. No exceptions.

Thebinisrightthere · 21/06/2026 17:03

Sorry to dripfeed but I read other reviews and the description of it and I really don't think it's my sort of thing. If I'm ever tempted to see it, I'd rather wait till it comes closer to me

Same here. I have a list :
les Mis
operation Mincemeat
any tribute type thing like life of Michael/Tina etc although Motown the Musical was amazing
lots of chic flick movies turned musical eg the bodyguard because the audience is generally dreadful and caterwauls along

They just thought they'd check first before booking it. I think my dd wanted to go more than me because she loves William Hanson

Nah, not at all. My youngest dd also didn't want to see it

I love Les Mis, but I'm with you on the rest, they all sound dreadful, and even the good reviews highlight the bits I'd hate.

You missed out. It’s hilarious!
Saw it last year and don’t think I have ever laughed so much!

fudgesmummy · 21/06/2026 17:15

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon
me too!
Was absolutely fantastic! One of the highlights was all the people dressed up (lots of burly, very hairy men in “white dresses with blue satin sashes” 😆)
I also met my 16 year niece in the ladies dressed up as a nun!! 😳😆

Really? I just feel like it’s going to be unrelenting misery from the clips I’ve seen, not sure I want to pay and see it 🤣

It's brilliant unrelenting misery and a classic.
It's not as miserable as A Little Life, on stage which I've also seen if that helps?
