Bruised coccyx advice

I fell and bruised my coccyx a week ago. I can at least go through the motion of sitting down and getting up now without 5 million slow shuffles and agony, but sitting itself is still horrendously uncomfortable and I can't sit for more than 10 mins or so which doesn't make for a very relaxing weekend!

DH is picking up a coccyx cushion from Argos for me later. I'm taking ibuprofen but tbh it's not really helping. Driving is the worst as i obviously can't adjust my position and have to sit straight and I think that just irritates it and makes it worse for the rest of the day. Has anyone else done this and can you give me some survival advice? I'm getting fed up now and google says it's likely to be at the very least a mth before it feels better?

The cushion will be your best friend.

I bruised my coccyx a few years ago and unfortunately it took around 18 months to feel completely normal sitting on a hard surface again.

Although the doctor told me this was because I 'didn't have much fat on my rump!' 👀😂

Hope it feels better soon.

I think the cushion is a good idea, ice-pack for 20 minutes at a time (when possible) and an anti-inflammatory painkiller. From what I understand it can take several weeks to heal. If it was only a week ago, it's probably too soon to see a GP. If it's not getting any better or seems worse, then you need to seek medical advice.

Can you use the cushion in the car? I had a wedge shaped on that helped with sciatica pain because it relieve pressure on that part of my spine. You’d need to adjust your car seat for safety but it definitely helped.

You can take ibuprofen 3 times a day (always after food) AND paracetamol 4 times a day. You can get stronger medicines from the pharmacy. Topical creams such as Voltarol and biofreeze can help slightly.
The cushion is a great idea
Unfortunately, similar to broken ribs there is nothing really to do other than manage pain and wait for it to resolve.

I definitely don't think I have that problem 😂. Thank you

I'm hoping so. Will chuck it in and give it a go round the block first.

I think we have some ibuprofen gel somewhere I hadn't thought of that. Thanks

My child did this and I got a cushion specially shaped for a car seat. They do exist if you find you need one! Best wishes OP.

It’s horrendous. I couldn’t believe how long it lasted. Months and months. I never found anything that made it better. Just time I’m afraid.
