I just finished watching Maternal Instinct on Netflix.

Has anyone else seen it?

Dear me I wish I hadn't. It's really affected me. For those of you who haven't watched it I suggest you don't.

Someone on another thread said that and of course I went straight on Netflix and watched it! It is shocking. The fucked up people that walk among us..

We’re about halfway through, finishing the other half today. Does it get even worse?! It’s already so unbelievable

I watched it, what an awful woman. Despicable. It’s so shocking to think people like that walk among us. I vaguely remember hearing about it at the time or maybe there has been another case similar?

I watched it, until the very end I couldn’t fathom what was going to happen. Couldn’t comprehend that someone could be so evil. Horrifying.

it just shows how charismatic narcissistic psychopaths can be!

The ending was horrific. Rest easy, Reagan. 💐

In this circumstance I absolutely feel the death sentence is appropriate.

Absolutely sobbed my eyes out!! I've seen some fucked up shit in my life, real life, TV, films , true crime docs etc..barely batted an eyelid but this !!! Upset me so so bad still can't stop thinking about it days later

Watched it yesterday. Dealt with a compulsive liar last year and the start was so similar. I really wasn't expecting the heights it went on the documentary.

I know death row is often actually just life without parole but they can’t exterminate her fast enough for me.

I was struck though by how physically relaxed Wade remained when they told him what she’d done. I suspect DH would have rocketed through the ceiling with the same news. To his credit though, his first question was asking about the poor baby.

I dated a compulsive liar in my teens. The whole bit, having cancer treatment etc (disproved by calling the ward he was supposedly being treated on, pre-GDPR). I wonder what he’s doing now, locked up hopefully.

Me too, I was wondering how she managed to steal a baby that was literally just born, it didn't even occur to me that she did what she did. Horrific

Actually @CheeseWisely i agree with the bit about Wade, I honestly don’t believe he had a clue (he didn’t seem too bright) but I think dh would have had some words if he was told what Wade was. Instead he sort of let out a breath and was like “ah maybe I should have listened to my family,” and I was thinking “WTF??? Where is the shocked reaction?!”

He didn't even uncross his legs, that's what I noticed, you know, he was all slumped down in the chair legs crossed at the ankles, a comfortable, relaxed position which he didn't alter when he was told what she did. Imo a normal reaction there would be to sit up straight or at least uncross his legs and lean forward or something that would take him out of that relaxed posture

I had to fast forward through various sections towards the end and felt really sick and disturbed by the whole thing. This is one of the most horrific things I have ever encountered and I wish I’d never watched it. It really made me question WHY I watch true crime at all and may change my viewing habits completely. I am against the death penalty on the basis that innocent people have been wrongly convicted, but I totally get why it feels appropriate here.

Yeah I'm not an advocate for the death penalty, mainly because of the danger that an innocent person might be put to death but this case seems pretty clear on her guilt

What I didn't understand was her motivation to do it. She was the one pretending to be coming in to a vast fortune, buying cars for people, making an offer on the ranch etc.

Wade didn't really have anything going for him. I appreciate beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but to me he isn't a particularly good looking man, no charisma, frustratingly slow on the uptake a lot of the time and no great wealth or property which would attract gold digger behaviour. I don't understand why she was doing all this to pursue him in particular.

That poor woman and her baby! Even if the baby had survived, how on earth did she think she was going to get away with passing her off as her own?
