Im not a fan of Labour/ Starmer as such, but I don’t think he’s a bad politician. Why do so many Labour MPs want him out?

He's the leader of the party; he sets the direction of travel of all of them.
He is the most unpopular Prime Minister since they started measuring these things nearly 50 years ago.
If the public dump him at the next election then those MPs get dumped, too.
It's self-preservation.

likelysuspect · 19/06/2026 20:27

Im a traditionally Labour voter although havent voted for anyone since Brexit as I believe Labour enabled this and it wasnt legally binding but they goaded

But Labour have always been a party of self harm. Some of the left's beliefs are self harm, to vulnerable groups and to the country at large.

Im fed up with it all. I dont vote now, Im politically homeless.

Because he’s failed

Because they want to hold on to their constituencies, and they know KS is very unlikely to win another general elections.

They think they have a better chance with AB

AgnesMcDoo · 19/06/2026 20:30

Because he’s shit. He’s failing the country and they want better.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/06/2026 20:31

He’s a catastrophically bad politician. He’s self consciously against/above politics and came to it quite late in life and he’s terrible at it. He’s the most unpopular prime minister we’ve ever had. Every Labour MP has spent nearly two years being told how hated he is on the doorstep. He’s toxic and they understandably want rid of him.

SixtySevenLabubus · 19/06/2026 20:32

What specific policies are people relating to here?

The big issue at the next election will be immigration, which Labour under Kier have greatly reduced?

I don't think they do, particularly, but staying loyal to a PM who's on the way out could have unintended repercussions on their own career.

Worse than Liz Truss?!?

I’ve no idea why he is so hated. He’s the most unpopular Prime Minister we’ve ever had? Have people forgotten Johnson? I’m interested too in specific policies. No-one seems to come up with anything - just that he’s awful.

likelysuspect · 19/06/2026 20:40

When people hate on Labour they forget all about the Tories.

SixtySevenLabubus · 19/06/2026 20:40

Starmer does have integrity. Look up all of the pro-bono work he did for Helen Steel on the McLibel case.

Well, many say he's boring. I'm ok with boring. What I'm not ok with, as a Labour Party member is what looks like a total lack of conviction about the right and wrong of policy.

He seems to have little conviction, which is the beginning of forming a policy.

For example, Thatcher had convictions about the right and wrong way society needed to go. I fundamentally disagreed with them, but I could see why her convictions had led to the policy she set in motion.

Starmmers speech about an island of strangers was the breaking point for me. The Labour Party I'm a part of welcomes all and knows we are stronger together than apart.

It cheers me no end to see that in the last two Manchester elections, people have come together by deciding who is best placed to beat the always divisive Farrage. And voted accordingly.

In short I think our current PM is a decent person. But I'm not sure he has many convictions and that makes a weak PM

TheChicDreamer · 19/06/2026 20:43

I really, really don’t think he’s ‘the most hated PM ever’. Certainly not in my (Liberal Democrat btw) corner of the world where most of my friends and colleagues think he’s alright actually and is certainly one of the more ‘grown up’ PMs we’ve had for many years.

Boris was a laughing stock. And Liz Truss… I mean, words fail me.

Hes a great lawyer. An absolutely shyte politician

Papoy · 19/06/2026 20:51

If you are not a "fan of labour" and think "he is ok" that means he hasn't been a good labour leader ... That's why we don't want him there ...

Seasidecatlady · 19/06/2026 20:51

Because he and Reeves has proved to be completely useless and their incompetence is pushing some people towards that grifter, Farage.

Time for a change.

Starmer would have made a decent Foreign secretary but that's his limit. He is no a leader and has no overall vision whatsoever for the country.

They haven't really reduced immigration. It's net immigration that's reduced because anyone who can is leaving the country.

Eyesopenwideawake · 19/06/2026 20:53

Because they, along with everyone else (but the MP's really should know better) have signed up the cult of personality since Thatcher's day. They want a Blair, a Johnson, even a Trump – someone they can fan worship. A Major, a Brown or a Biden is boring, not matter how effective they are.

Angel Merkel and Harold Wilson and Barack Obama * should be the standard for decent politicians to aspire to, instead all they want gurning, shouty twats.

*Yes, they made mistakes. So would you.

luckylavender · 19/06/2026 20:54

Why can’t people spell Keir?

EasternStandard · 19/06/2026 20:54

They don’t want an electoral liability.

Eyesopenwideawake · 19/06/2026 20:54

Bollix. I give up. Didn't mean to bold old Harold.

senua · 19/06/2026 20:55

You tell me! I challenge you to define 'Starmerism'.
Nobody has a scooby what he stands for.

He's awful because any one who can is leaving the country because of his economic policies.

No one wants to invest in the country and there aren't any jobs.

He's not stopping people defrauding in the system by pretending that they are disabled and getting thousands of pounds in benefits.

He's made sure that it's there is no point in working hard because you just get taxed more and more so it is better just to go on benefits.

Apart from that he's done a really good job.
