Anything pre 1960

OP posts:
milkandblackspiders · 19/06/2026 22:02

Frank Sinatra / any big band music
Anything by Nikki Minaj
Doechi - Anxiety
Whitney Houston - I will always love you
AC/DC - Thunderstruck

Surprised by the hate for Mr Brightside, I know it's overplayed but it's a great song!

Arran2024 · 19/06/2026 22:04

Jenny from the Block

PleaseAccepyMyUserNames · 19/06/2026 22:06

This thread was done a few years ago and I'm pleased nothing else has been offensive enough to change my original answers:

Tin tin out- here's where the story ends
Sixpence none the richer - kiss me.

Both songs make me feel violent! As a kid I wanted to throw my radio out the window when the syrupy drivel started

Summerbean · 19/06/2026 22:08

Anything by Sheryl Crowe, screechy female vocalists and heavy metal.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 19/06/2026 22:11

Almost forgot, anything by Cheryl Cole

parkezvous · 19/06/2026 22:24

HoraceCope · 19/06/2026 22:26

ScorchedEarthAdjacent · 19/06/2026 22:29

Anything Ed Sheeran, spice girls, girls aloud, oasis

AgentPidge · 19/06/2026 22:30

Anything by Oasis. The music is alright but I can't stand LG's limp singing.

Wexone · 19/06/2026 22:31

mundy July
Galway girl both of these songs were banned at my wedding
the pogues fairy tale of New York - and am irish 🙈
lately that song where is my husband played all the time 😞
if a song is played way too much on the radio its a complete turn off for me

SpottyAlpaca · 19/06/2026 22:34

The ghastly, hateful dirge about a sinking ship by Celine Dion. ‘My heart will go…’ click.

Tonissister · 19/06/2026 22:36

Thatcannotberight · 19/06/2026 20:41

Always on my mind- any version. It's a love song, apparently.

I couldn't be bothered to do or say anything to make you feel loved, but I thought about it. F off!

I thought that was the point of the song. That the man thinks he's being romantic but the lyrics show him up to be a selfish tosser. I love Pet Shop Boys version. They sound so insincere which works with the lyrics.

AllaFieraDellEst · 19/06/2026 22:38

Anything by Maroon Five.

Absolute dross.

Sgtmajormummy · 19/06/2026 22:42

“Through the Barricades” by Spandau Ballet. Complete tosh and misplaced sentimentality.
Anything by Simply Red. They went from cool to cringe in the space of 5 years.
And, of course “Je t’aime, moi non plus.”

Brimful of Asha

YES, THANK YOU! It's intolerable!

AitkenDrum1970 · 19/06/2026 19:12

Never found anyone else who feels like me about it! My family think it’s blasphemous not to like it 🤣

Me too!! I cannot bear it, never understood the hype at all

Borborygmus · 19/06/2026 22:46

Anything by The Smiths / Morrissey.

honeylulu · 19/06/2026 22:50

Africa by Toto. Can't even explain why I hate it so much, just the epitome of middle of the road American soft rock. Bleurgh.

My son knows how much I hate it and his classic wind up was to request it for me on holidays where there was live music entertainment. Once or twice, maybe amusing. But we had a two week resort holiday in St Lucia where I was rapidly known as "the lady who loves Africa" even after my son stopped requesting it for me because I gave him a bollocking I still ended up with every version going. Reggae, acoustic, jazz, steel pan drums, kareoke aaaarrgghh!!!! Then when I was having a skin cancer lump removed under local anaesthetic a few months ago guess what came on the radio which was playing to soothe my nerves?

Anyway as another poster reminded me, I also hate Three Times a Lady.

And anything by Coldplay. Music for adults who still piss the bed.

Oh god that tin tin out song. Awful.

AllaFieraDellEst · 19/06/2026 22:52

Oh also the big one: Smooth by Santana.

Fuck me do I hate that song. Physically painful to hear.

Teasall · 19/06/2026 23:02

I feel for you - Chaka Khan
Golden Brown - The Stranglers

First one reminds me of an old boyfriend and no idea on the second one but I hate it and always switch it off.

DierdreDaphne · 19/06/2026 23:06

ScouserForPM · 19/06/2026 20:13

Oh, and Come On Eileen.

Apparently it’s a great song. I physically hate it.

It's cropping up on here for the very good reason that it's awful, terrible and also dreadful.... it's somewhat rapey I think, but even if it wasn't - just no..

Moonlightdust · 19/06/2026 23:12

Anything Amy Winehouse
Toxic by Britney Spears
Pump it by The Black eyed Peas
Sexyback by Justin Timberland
S&M by Rhianna

I absolutely despise the above 👆

SilverMau · 19/06/2026 23:12

The worst for me is when I have a band that I enjoy, but they have one song that I just cannot abide. Unfortunately, I have this issue with a few bands. The worst is the frankly torturous 'Revolution 9' by the Beatles. I am still traumatised by the one time I tried to listen to it just in case there was a proper song hidden in there somewhere.
'Number 9... number 9... number 9...'
Arrrggghh! That nightmare of a thing catches me out every now and again.

Morepositivemum · 19/06/2026 23:16

Any of Ed sheeran’s slow songs, Adele, Shania Twain!
