Anything pre 1960

The Wind Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. Really can't stand it. Also horribly narcissistic.

Born in the USA

Urgh that one's a reet turd, a wailing dirge if ever I heard one.

@Greenandyellowdayi agree. I felt like I was the only person in the world that didn't like Oasis around 1994-1997 when they were HUGE. I remember hearing about this amazing new band & all the hype surrounding them, then actually hearing one of their songs & thinking "wait...this is them?" I thought there's no way this could be the band everyone is raving about. I still can't stand them, although I don't mind their stuff away from Oasis

Edited

😂Yes!

" Wind Beneath my Wings" it has to be the most condescending song!

" It must have been cold there in my shadow"
"you always walked a step behind "
"a beautiful face without a name"

with friends like that . . . . . . 🤔

Yes, especially when the poor friend's dead. God-awful song.

Feliz navidad

Oh God yes, that's awful

twoboystwodogs · 21/06/2026 14:55

Love Shack, hate that song. I've been known to stalk off the dance floor in disgust when it comes on. So overrated

Greenandyellowday · 21/06/2026 15:14

Oh, and another one. Sorry!

I don't know who it's by - it sounds like a girl "band" - but someone here will know who it is. The intro vocals/lyrics go: "Ah budub adub ah budub adub" and it makes my teeth grind. Every time it comes on, I have to leave the room.

Radio 2 is the station of choice where I work. Some of the drivel they play... In theory, I could say (cheery Briget Jones voice) "Right everyone, a little change: it's Radio 4 from now on" but that would make me (even more 😉) unpopular. Pick your battles, yes?

😂😂
And somehow worse now. No offence to any decent Americans.

The poor friend is dead, and while she was still alive you (the Bette Midler character) shagged her husband, iirc. Way to go!

Whatonearthdidicomeinherefor · 21/06/2026 15:20

Bryan Adams
Abba

My DH always has Smooth FM on in the car and I think they only have 10 songs they play. Even songs I love are tedious when I’m hearing them for the third time in one journey. 😱

jackstini · 21/06/2026 15:21

afaloren · 19/06/2026 19:17

Brimful of Asha

Me too!
Michael Jackson
Doja Cat - voice just goes through me
Kate Bush
Most stuff by Florence & the Machine
Dance Monkey
Loving’ You (ahahahahahah!!)
Wicked Game
There’s another one by a female singer which changes tempo and has a really fast chorus that’s so annoying - can’t think what it’s called…

Blimey I can’t stop thinking of them
now!

Rhaenys · 21/06/2026 15:23

Big Time Sensuality by Bjork. It’s the growling.

I don't remember that in the film. She grew close to the friend's boyfriend, but the friend did move away & marry someone else, from my recollection

There's Nothing Holding Me Back by Shawn Mendez

MauveFatball · 21/06/2026 15:57

Showing my age here but Reeling in the Years by Steely Dan sets my teeth on edge - I always have Heart70s on the radio in the car, and it’s on every time I drive!

Quite a few songs can reduce me to tears though as they remind me of difficult times in my life, when they were in the charts.

PocketSand · 21/06/2026 16:24

@clarrylove always reminds me of dearly departed dog who would ‘randomly’ climb onto my lap - except it wasnt random but every time that song was played on the radio - and she was a Doberman rather than a small lap dog. I learned to scramble to turn it off before the violins because it upset her so much!

Grampy60 · 22/06/2026 10:31

Pretty much any music my wife likes. We do have a few overlaps but generally her musical taste is terrible and mine's excellent. For some reason she thinks it's the other way round.

Anything pre 1960

Anything by Jess Glynn. She makes me want to take my ears off and put them in a blender. Also George Ezra. So glad he’s not relevant anymore he’s unbelievably irritating.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 23/06/2026 17:46

Robbie Williams - Angels

Anything from Sam Smith

I usually quickly mute anything by him but I did like Dancing with a Stranger he did with Noemi, mainly because she sang quite a lot of it.

RaininSummer · 23/06/2026 20:27

Anything but Earth, wind and Fire, Stylistics etc. Anything which witters about boogying, grooving. All those awful shagging songs such as afternoon delight, we do it etc. Puke.

mydogisthebest · 23/06/2026 20:42

Anything by Celine Dion, Whitney Houston and Adele. Can't stand their screeching

Shut Up And Dance. I just turned it off about 10 mins ago.

Where do I start? Annoying tune and melody before you start on the lyrics, a mix of childish and "This woman is my destiny" after approximately 4 minutes on the dance floor? Definitely a textbook case of too much, too soon.

Oh, don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I say, "You're holding back"
She said, "Shut up and dance with me!"
This woman is my destiny
She said, "Ooh-ooh
Shut up and dance with me"
Ow!

I like EWF but agree with you on the others. Shagging songs ha ha! Barry White has a lot to answer for.
