What shall I take to drinks and nibbles?

I’ve been invited to ‘drinks and nibbles’ with the girls from work. I’ve just started a new job and they seem a tight knit group so I’m really pleased I’ve been invited - they do seem welcoming and friendly.

I’ve asked the host what I should bring and she nothing, but I hate turning up empty handed. I was thinking about taking some M&S posh crisps (the £4 a bag ones). In my head it seems like a little gesture, but will I look like a loon turning up with crisps?

I’d take wine also

OttersOnAPlane · 19/06/2026 15:06

Take a bottle of wine.

Take the crisps. Why would it look odd to turn up to drinks and nibbles with nibbles?!

Those crisps and a nice bottle of rosè! Hope you have fun!

Oh, sorry should have said I’m also taking a bottle of non alcoholic fizz because I don’t drink.

Don’t just take the non-alcoholic wine which is clearly for yourself. If someone else is hosting you, it’s polite to take a bottle for them.

I would take my own drink and a bottle of wine for the host. I probably wouldn't take crisps.

Thebigonesgetaway · 19/06/2026 15:29

Op take some alcoholic wine for the host. Not just what you drink, that’s a bit tight, what with your solitary bag of crisps.

id take a bottle of wine for the host and a box of chocolates or some flowers.

dont front up with a bag of crisps and some wine only you will drink.

I personally wouldn't find it odd but I have a friend who hates it when people turn up with food when she invites them for nibbles, BBQ etc. She views it as offensive as if what she prepared isn't good enough 😅 she'd be fine with wine, box of chocs etc as long as it's not for the main event!

I would bring alcoholic wine and the non alcoholic wine and also a couple of bags of crisps and maybe some chocolate. It is your first time attending better to bring too much than too little. You should then be able to gauge how much others bring.
