Travel confessions thread. What things do you do that provoke online censure?

My name is Awhimoway and I don't pack light. I've been to loads of different places and lived in a fair few and each time I've travelled I've taken up oodles of airspace with my shoes/books/nice little hand painted serving bowls I picked up from this darling little market.

I know that in these Ryanair days there's a certain mindset that says travelling light is travelling virtuously. Well, maybe, but fuck that. I like having nice stuff around me.

I also don't give one tiny crap about which seat I sit on. As long as I'm not outside on the actual wing, it's all good. But, I keep reading these online stories where people get bent out of shape about it.

Over to you. What do you do that would provoke the online fury when you travel?

I only realised that there is a moral performance about 'packing light' from this forum

Never experienced it in real life

I pack heavy. Very heavy.

I also stand up as soon as the seat belts can come off as I cant stand sitting down for too long. This appears to annoy people.

Good for you.

The packing light bores are weird. Why would you measure your moral worth against Ryanair's profit model?

I brought a very large handmade completely useless pottery bowl back from Cyprus on my lap many years ago, it's delightful, pale blue fishes made in Lemba. I've no idea where any of my actual luggage went.
I held that dish as carefully as I did my precious first born a couple of years later at 7 weeks old.
Same child can do the underseat packing thing. The dish is wider than a seat.

at a guess paying for an assigned seat then being bumped from the aircraft

Sounds gorgeous.

I've got some lovely bowls and jugs I've bought from various Greek islands over the years - you know the kind of thing, where the hotel owner's son in law likes doing pottery and sells them in the shop for five euros, wouldn't stand a chance of passing EU regulations but it's pretty and reminds you of a nice time. One of them I eat breakfast out of most mornings as it goes.
