Hi
Anyone a General Technician in a Secondary School? Do you enjoy it and what interview questions were you asked?
Thanks

As a teacher in a secondary school I fail to see how you could be a 'general' technician. Our technicians are very specialist, sometimes more so than teachers!

Do you mean Science technician?
Or do you mean science, and food tech, and DT etc? (Just interested).

I get the impression everyone working in schools gets asked about safeguarding.

There is a Facebook group - something like School technician support - that may be of use. There were certainly some cross subject techs in there.

Safeguarding, unreasonable requests and how to deal with them, unsafe teacher practicals, prioritizing.

However, things for you to ask them/try and work out: how much time per subject? What happens to e.g science when the Art exam is on, and and you are required for the 2 days? How did the previous tech split their time - and if this is an amalgamation of jobs, where are the time savings coming from.

Id also look at how big the school is, and what other tech support is available. I did science in a small school. No way I could have added in cooking - and no way the art or DT would want my complete lack of ability and knowledge. So, what training is going to be provided for the areas you are unfamiliar with?

It is general technician but primarily supporting creative arts and DT departments. I’m definitely not qualified to assist in a science department. I work in the school already in a part time role. It’s about 1000 students over 3 year groups.
