What’s going on with men?

After reading the awful Preston Davey stuff, I went back to BBC News site and saw this lovely story about a man being arrested after a 3yo was pushed into a crocodile enclosure. It’s believed the boy and man were not known to one another.

What the absolute fuck is going on with men in this country? Yes yes not all men, but almost always a man.

It’s genuinely frightening.

A bricked barn has a car park outside the front on the left. There is a fence on the right which opens into a court yard and there are signs on the door.

A 30-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after a boy was critically injured, police say.

Just saw this alert

It reminds me of the poor young French boy who was pushed from the roof of the Tate?
I wonder if this male will have MH/learning difficulties?

How shocking and awful.

rolloverbeethoven · 18/06/2026 17:03

I've just seen that too. What the hell is going on?

WellThatIsABitMad · 18/06/2026 17:03

What the hell?! This is awful.

Yes that’s what I thought of too. It’s just awful and it scares me.

It made me think of the boy pushed off the Tate Gallery as well. I hope this little one is ok, how utterly horrific for his family.

I’m also dreading what will happen if it turns out to be someone with a foreign sounding name / an asylum seeker / someone recently arrived in the country… Feels like there’s a tinder box waiting to explode if any of those boxes are ticked.

I honestly don't think anything has changed, wrt men's behaviour. We're starting to stop blaming women and take complaints seriously.

Hatty65 · 18/06/2026 17:22

I imagine it's someone with MH issues or some sort of problem. It's pretty unfair to blame 'men' for this. Pushing a child into a crocodile enclosure is extreme.

I'm old enough to remember Mary Bell killing children, so it's not just men.

Not sure how anyone could pin this one on a woman. Bet someone will try though.

I’m sorry but I have one of the most serious MH conditions in the DSM, and an ND, and I’ve gone 40 years on this Earth without ever pushing a kid into a crocodile enclosure. I’m sure it will get trotted out in court because it’s the standard defence these days but I don’t believe this is MH, it’s just men being arseholes again.

There is absolutely no comparison between how many women commit crimes like that / this, compared to how many men do. To suggest they are anything like equal, just because you can name a particularly famous case, is disingenuous and ridiculous.

Throwaway380 · 18/06/2026 17:35

This is horrific, I live near here. The crocodile enclosure walk around is high, you walk round and look down at the crocodiles in a big pool, even falling from that height would be an awful accident, let alone with the water and crocodiles. Cannot imagine the trauma.

I can see it. Where was the boy's mother? Why was he close enough to the crocodiles that a mentally unwell man could do that? Why didn't she have hold of him etc etc.

To be clear I am not saying that at all, but I think that is how cases have been commented on in the past.

The fact that you had to say I am old enough to remember...when we've had two cases in a week kind of sums matters up.

If you know the place its always made me feel uneasy with how accessible the animals are, considering how dangerous some of them are. We went there once and havent been back and never saw the appeal. I can see how if you're distracted for even a second this can easily happen. It's a very popular place for a day out on days like today (sunny and warm) as its so cheap. Two young kids, one has an issue and you're not looking for a second at the other and then this happens. Obviously the man is fully responsible for his actions. But i expect health and safety will be involved, or i at least hope so.

Police have said the perpetrator is unfit for interview, which is indicative of someone with profound learning disabilities who is likely non-verbal.

How can you possibly even begin to think that it's the mother's fault? Jesus Christ on a bloody bike. The child was on the correct side of a protective barrier. Are you suggesting that mothers should always keep a fierce grip of their children just in case some fucking nutter decides to throw them over a parapet or into a crocodile enclosure?

mylifeisexams · 19/06/2026 16:46

I thought of the poor boy at the Tate as well, and the Nottingham stab victims. There are so many other examples. All men.

Did you even read that persons post? She literally writes in the second paragraph that that isn’t what SHE is saying at all but what others will say. Because if you actually read what she is quoting, she is discussing what people will say in order to blame a woman. Try reading what people are actually saying before getting into a rant.
