Do handwritten letters still feel special in long-distance relationships?

DS has a partner who has returned to her home country for a couple of months over the summer .
Due to the time difference it’s not easy to catch up by phone but they are messaging as you’d expect .
However he phoned me for a quick chat the other day and told me he was on the way to the post office to send her a letter .
Just thought that was the sweetest thing !
I still have some special letters from student/ teen years . There’s something special about a hand written letter !

It's lovely and I wish it was more common. It's a keepsake too. When they are older they will have them to look back on. I had pen pals and kept letters, I have a few from teenage boyfriend too. All ceased in 1997. If I were to disappear today and someone went through my stuff they would think my teen BF was the love of my life and not DH who I've been with since the late 90s. Even I can only just about access my email or phone messages these days with the additional tech complications added every few months, if dh died I'd have little to look back on, nothing tangible. It's sad really
