Entitled behaviour of some dog owners

I am on holiday in the UK. I accept that the area I am in is popular with dog owners and I accept the presence of dogs, but the sheer number of them in some spaces and the thoughtless behaviour of some dog owners is really starting to grate.
I'm in a cafe - restaurant place for lunch. Most other people in here have their dogs with them...fine. But some people have brought in clearly reactive dogs which are intermittently barking loudly at each other, whining, flying into a rage when other dogs go past their tables and growling. It makes me jump out of my skin when they loudly go off and set a baby off crying in shock. There is outside seating available and it's quite a nice day so why they can't sit outside I don't know.
Add to that, dogs sitting on the seats, being allowed to reach too far on their leads making them a trip hazard, and sniffing around my legs as they go past on leads with owners making no attempt to remedy any of this.
The staff are young and very polite and seem a bit ill equipped to deal with any of this.
I'm not out to spoil anyone's day so am keeping quiet but it is not relaxing. I feel like I'm in a minority these days though with not finding this enjoyable.

They just shouldn’t be allowed in food places at all. They are smelly and it’s unhygienic

Completely agree it’s so vile to have them around food!

Eh? I think I am entitled to enjoy a public space without it being ruined by the behaviour of others, yes! Good grief

A cafe is not a public space it is a privately owned business, with it's own business model designed for best profit margins and the owners personal preferences. If the owners would prefer to attract dog owners and see them as a more reliable income stream then you OP then that is their choice to make.

I think you’ll just have to get used to it. Dogs aren’t going anywhere and like PP said, businesses make their own rules regarding dogs.

I get why it’s considered unhygienic to have dogs all up in the food etc but unless they are literally licking the pastry I’m about to eat, I couldn’t care less! A dog just being in a cafe doesn’t mean there’s dog germs on your food

I don't disagree with her.
But to start yet another dog owners are entitled thread on this forum of a million dog owners are entitled threads is ridiculous.

If you go to public spaces there will always be an arsehole.
But if you don't want to risk arsehole dog owners you do have the choice to go to dog free venues.

TBF OP is trying to have a discussion based on the behaviour of some dog owners rather than “dogs shouldn’t be allowed anywhere” . I think it’s an interesting discussion to have.

i posted upthread about encountering an “assistance dog” (that I don’t believe was genuine as it seemed completely untrained from how it was behaving - obviously I have zero issue with any actual assistance dog being anywhere it needs to be) in a hospital. Not sure what dog free options I could have chosen in that situation?

Dog free spaces are available.

I'm not sure why you keep repeating that. Is it because you feel my concerns are invalid?
I am aware that dog free spaces are available

Its because they have only one arguement and zero empathy or understanding for other people.

Other threads not talking about poor dog behaviour are available

It's odd how everyone is expected to accommodate neurodiversity and sensory issues now, yet when it comes to loudly barking dogs or an aversion to sniffing or licking which make a lot of people recoil and get anxious, we are just expected to suck it up.

You really can’t win on Mumsnet. If you start a discussion about something that is a recurring theme, you get chastised and questioned about why you didn’t join one of the other discussions. But if you reawaken an old thread, you are told to start a new thread because this one is old and nobody will read it. Or there are numerous exclamations of ‘zombie thread!’ I know there are loads of threads about dogs, but they generally aren’t running concurrently with exactly the same dog related theme. If someone wants to start their own thread, let them crack on. That’s what chat forums are for. And you are not obliged to read it. I can’t be arsed with chats about the Royal Family. If there suddenly seem to be loads of threads popping up, I enjoy my big dramatic eye roll and find something else to read.

Is my dog more unhygienic than I am in my wellies likely with some sort of animal faeces on; cow sheep horse deer bird rabbit or hare and my outdoor clothes on?
My dogs are approx 12” to the shoulder if I’m at a cafe food counter ordering something i.e. no waitress they are standing/sitting on the floor no where near the food. But I in my gardening/outdoor clothes (jackets in particular are not washed regularly) might reach over and pick up say a packet of biscuits. I would have thought in the grand scheme of things this is more of an hygiene issue if an issue exists which I suspect it doesn’t.
I don’t let mine on the furniture in a cafe. Yup they might have mud animal faeces on the feet fur and deposit it on the cafe floor but so might my foot wear but unless non dog owners are able to float along that would apply to anyone’s foot wear.
Quick bit of googling apparently in the UK the risk of getting an infection from a dog is exceedingly low.
