Any margarita mix recommendations please?

Do any of you wonderful MNers have recommendations for a good margarita mix please?? It’s years since I bought any so I am very out of touch.

I’m heading off to a remote island (we will be the only people there!) next month with a hot man 😝 and he wants to make margaritas (he’d never had one until we were away for a weekend recently….yes, I know he must have been living under a bush lol)

There seems to be tons on the market (well, Amazon) but I’m hoping not to spend a fortune trying them all until I find a good one. And we go away in under 3 weeks so there are only so many margaritas I can drink in that time (although I will give it a good go!)

Just to complicate matters getting to the island involves 2 flights, a speedboat, a hire car and then another boat. So if I’m going to be laden down with margarita mix, I want it to taste great!

(I recently tried Pentire’s non-alcoholic herb version of a margarita and it was the most vile thing I have ever tasted - or smelt. Such a disappointment).

Not what you want to hear maybe but pre-made cocktails are pretty terrible. Just buy a bottle of tequila and triple sec and take some limes.

Or, if you only want to bring one bottle you could premix the tequila and Cointreau and bring it in a single bottle. You could also squeeze the limes in advance .

Came here to say exactly this!

Don't buy premix margaritas, they're not nice. Or you can buy margarita mixer, which is silly because you still need to add the booze.

All you need is equal volumes of triple sec, tequila and freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake with ice. Pour into a glass with salted rim.

Margaritas were my DH's favourite!!

No need to spend extra ££ on mix; bring the ingredients as above. The usual ratio is:
3x tequila
2x orange liqueur (triple sec/cointreau)
1x lime juice
Bottled lime juice is an easy substitute for freshly squeezed limes (no squeezer required) and might travel more easily.
And don't forget to have extra salt to hand. pour some out on a plate, wet the rim of the glass, turn the glass upside down and twist in the salt.

Okay thanks everyone, that seems like a consensus!

I’m checking how much booze (spirits) I’m allowed to take into the country right now and need to check if we can get our hands on limes there. It’s up past the Arctic Circle so restrictions on when/where you can buy spirits plus no idea how accessible limes are (the hot man will know that).

Salt is the easy bit. And apparently there is already a cocktail shaker in the cabin so sounds promising.
