Toilet flush help!

Tonight the toilet has decided it will not flush. No blockage that I can see, the pan is not gurgling or filling abnormally it’s just the actual flush mechanism does not want to work, even when you try and do it manually (chat GPT told me to try that) I’ll try and get a plumber asap tomorrow but in the meantime - what do I do?? 3 Adults in the house, 2 WFH and no toilet! I have read to chuck a bucket of water down, does that actually work?

I can't seriously believe you are on here asking if a bucket of water will work rather than just trying a bucket of water....of course it will bloody work, do you understand what happens when you push the flush button?

Ha ha nope, not really. Thanks though. I now have the confidence to chuck water downs, had visions on flooding the bathroom. I’m useless with this kind of thing as you can tell!

It's very unlikely you need a plumber....the flush mechanism has probably just become disconnected. Lift the cistern lid and have a look! If you need a new flush button you can get them v cheap off amazon.
