Summerween

This seems to have become a thing in the last few years. Basically it’s the ‘spirit of Halloween’ in the summer, usually from June. According to folklore in some cultures, midsummer is actually ‘spooky season’ so maybe that’s where it comes from.

I’ve seen some shops already have Halloween stuff in so maybe they’re getting on board with this. I like spooky stuff and anything cinnamon so seems quite fun to me.

I can imagine a lot of people scoffing at this, however!

I love all the seasons, love Halloween, love it all. But I’m so so so tired of being constantly sold things.

Do you just mean the summer solstice when people go and dance and chant at Stonehenge because it's a neolithic monument to mark the midsummer?

Oh, I just googled it and it's a load of commercial clap trap based on one cartoon. I suppose it does link to Pagen ideas but that's not why Home Bargains will be promoting plastic plates and napkins emblazoned with Summerween and some cartoon ghosts.

I'm a hard core autumn winter fan

But its just too early for the shops to have everything in, and it actually ruins the magic!

Isn't it off a TV show?

Well maybe
but “folklore in some cultures” is fucking vague

The summer solstice is already acknowledged/celebrated in the UK - Stonehenge was built in alignment

They just want you to buy more and more

Stonehenge also lines up with the Winter Solstice which is becoming more interesting in that farmers needed to know the shortest day more than the longest

A wonderful monument either way of the importance of seasons to humanity
