Why book any driving test first and change it later?

The advice is always to book a test anywhere, at any time and then to change it when a cancellation comes up where/when you want the test. But can anybody explain why that's better than waiting to get the test you want in the first place?

AFAIK, the cancellations show up in the same way that the new test bookings do, so what's the advantage of booking a test you intend to change? Thanks!

You can sign up for the apps if you already have a test booked.

It's quicker (fewer clicks on the keyboard) to change a test than book one. Tests are booked super fast when they come up so it helps to be speedy.

Ah that makes sense - thanks.

under the new rules I don’t think that strategy works anymore? DS has a test booked and if he wants to change it it can only be at the same same centre or the 2 nearest ones.

This.

But previously yes the cancellations were getting snapped up by those with tests already booked first.

We got up early Monday morning to bag a test 5 months away at a close-enough test centre, then worked on moving it forward if needed.

You are not allowed to use these apps now. If you use them you will be banned from taking your test!
