Any Duolingo whizzes about?

My DS is the proud holder of a 1 year Duolingo streak, but he is soon to go on a 5 day school Residential where phones are not allowed, so he is very worried about losing his streak! Does anyone know of a way he can protect it, or a way around the problem please?
(I've messaged Duolingo customer services but they haven't got back to me)

You can buy streak freezes with your - are they called gems? Not sure. I’m not aware if 5 can be bought though.

I'm not sure he'll have enough to buy 5 streak freezes, and unfortunately they still need to take their phones for emergencies but just aren't allowed to use them, so I can't do it for him!

Can you log into his account on a different device while he’s away? If not, Duolingo will offer him a broken streak back again but I’m not sure how it works. My son had a streak of over 1000 days and abandoned it for about three months, then when he picked it up again Duolingo offered to reinstate his streak after something like 10 consecutive days of playing.

You can buy streak freezes with gems but not sure of the limit (they're handed out in the app, no need to pay actual money). Otherwise, you can have the same account on multiple devices, so if you want to log in and do an easy lesson just to keep it ticking over, download on your phone or tablet and get him to log in before he goes. And test it, just in case! (Source: have babysat a relative's streak while they were away for ten days)

in addition to 2 streak freezes, I have a 7 day streak shield to use for holiday. Got it with a 3000 gems. I think it was in the shop
