Uni holidays - Collection of stuff and storage for the summer

DS at Manchester Uni, we were going to drive up from the SW in a hired van, stay in a hotel one night, collect stuff, bring home, etc, but now I'm thinking that if there's a storage company that can collect his stuff from his dorm and store it for the summer, we'll just need to do the trip in sept, collect his stuff and deliver to new house.

Just wondering if anyone's done this in Manchester and there are specific companies they'd recommend?

When does tenancy of new house start?

Students do that in Nottingham they often share a container with their friends - I guess it depends on cost and how much stuff they actually have? Most student houses are furnished aren’t they? So I’m guessing just loose stuff?

We looked into this as DS stayed in halls from year 1 to year 2 - but the uni offered nothing. There's a high proportion of overseas students where he is so the uni said there was private storage but it would have cost us over a grand for the summer which we cannot afford. I guess you can look at storage units and maybe get a cheap deal for the first 3 months that would make it more affordable?

I'm in Exeter which is a BIG university city. I have seen advertisements for 2 or 3 different companies that do this. I would be surprised if your DS has not been sent some info/advertising about it as well.

if you/he decide to do this, please ask him to ensure that anything he is putting in storage is clean! Can you imagine what it would be like after 3 months in storage of there were some not entirely clean items in there.....

We used this company for DS, who's in London. Great service and all ran very smoothly.

DD went to uni 330 miles away and had far too much to fit in our car. She arranged for everything to go into store, and storage company to collect and redeliver to new rental end Aug. Storage Co wete brilliant, collected early morning before she got train home later on.
