I just want people to know

It was his birthday on Monday. Hes now 17. He’s been a fucking nightmare of a dog but also legendary.

He’s eaten so many things that should have caused issues and nothing has caused an issue. So far he has;

1. eaten 5 boxes of denta sticks with 6 packs of them in each box so a ridiculous amount of denta sticks as DH hadn’t ever had a dog (hes mine pre meeting DH so he just left them on the floor and Hugo just destroyed them all. He puked them all up on the one rug we had in the house..
2. He ate some dough that was proofing, then puked it up (on the same rug as above) and then was banging into things, so off to the vets we go, the vet pronounced him drunk off the yeast in the dough 🤦‍♀️
3. we moved across the country and knew no one so we found a lovely professional dog walker who was going to have him when we officially moved in. I handed them his muzzle and said basically don’t take it off him please he’s such a liability, she handed him back at 8pm without his muzzle and said he wasn’t aggressive to other dogs so it was removed. I reminded them that he wasn’t wearing it for aggression but because he eats shit off the floor. I asked for their insurance and sure enough he needed emergency surgery to remove a child’s sock, a Lego action man and 37p in change.
4. we changed our holiday to bring him with us and he refused to walk and made my husband carry him up 2 flights of stairs in the hotel and when DH put him lovingly on the dog bed in our room he jumped on the bed..
5. when he was having his stitches out after surgery the vet gave me such a lecture about how I needed to be more on the ball and make sure he didn’t eat anything he wasn’t supposed to, and whilst that was happening he chewed off the vets shoelaces.

I’ve never met such a ridiculous dog but honestly he’s hilarious and ridiculous. He’s a corgi x Labrador and frankly it’s a surprise to everyone that he’s still going

Aw! I love Hugo! I have a similar dog. She absolutely loves chocolate and will steel it any chance she gets. She's never been sick from it.

Took a whole new block of Cheddar cheese off the kitchen counter when I wasn't looking. I thought I'd gone crazy as it was missing. Found the packaging outside later.

The best (worst?) one was when she woke up one morning and couldn't use her back legs. I thought she'd had a stroke. I was crying my eyes out phoning the vet. We finally managed to get this 80 pound dog in the car. Vet declared she had a growth on her spine pinching the nerves to her back legs. Sent us home with muscle relaxants.

About 10 minutes after getting home, DH asked if I'd seen the 'special' brownies he had left on the dining room table.... There were about 9 brownies and DH eats a quarter of one every now and then. She ate ALL 9!! So she was just incredibly high! By the next morning she could walk straight again and was circling the dining room table looking for more. I can laugh about it now, but at the time I was absolutely furious.

Happy birthday Hugo!! You sound an absolute legend my boy would have loved to have met you. We lost him in April aged 15 and a half. He once pinched the whole ham i'd cooked for Xmas out of the fridge and ate almost all of it before we could get it off him!! Luckily he managed to survive. Miss him more each day

This reminds me of my MIL's now-late dog. He literally used to eat chocolate from under their Christmas tree, he once ate a whole pack of butter, and many other things besides - he stole bacon sandwiches, sausages, and he was right as rain! He died of old age a couple of years ago - so, not of any of the many things which could have got him!

It’s funny how it’s the naughtiest ones who steal your heart the most. My lovely cocker boy had a similar career, and was the neediest, most stubborn and difficult dog ever, but how I miss the little demon!

This has really cheered me up! What an adorable goofball!

This was our poodle 🐩 who also died of old age - he would eat ANYTHING. Whole pack of butter that he stole from the table, raisin cakes, whole sandwiches, snails, a pack of colouring pencils ✏️ , a book 📕 - literally everything! And he had no illnesses whatsoever up until his death from old age.
