Anyone sold a car through We Buy Any Car?

ChilledProsecco · 10/06/2026 10:38

Long story, but I’ve ended up with 2 cats (the old one was in the dealership for a major repair & I couldn’t do my job without one, so had to buy a new one).

Now I’ve got the old one back & of course can’t do a trade in so must sell it on.

I don’t really feel comfortable with a private sale so am considering WBAC.

Do they beat you down a lot in price from what is offered online? Mark down for every little scratch?
Or did you get close to what was offered?

Any experiences to share? Thanks

There’s lots of similar companies. I tried we buy any car and they found a tiny bit of rust on my 3yr old car which we were shocked at. It was almost underneath it. They were all over the car looking for any flaws. They reduced the price by £1400 so I took it home, I wasn’t selling it to them for so low.

Found a company online called something similar like we want any car. The value online was about £1000 more than the other mob. They came to my house to look at car and offered me about £500 less, I said no (even though I was screaming yes inside) just to see if they would up it and they did by £200. I got more than the original we buy any car offer. They paid me there and then by bank transfer, took the keys and said someone would arrive in a day or two to collect it and they did. Was so easy.

Has anyone used carwow ... they seem to be offering me more than WBAC

Pinkbus · 10/06/2026 11:57

I've sold several cars through them. Always found them very fair and the process simple and stress free. Maybe I could have got a few quid more by dealing with private buyers, but no thank you.

My mum used Motorway, she was impressed and said it was very easy to sort.

Sloelydoesit · 10/06/2026 11:59

I used Motorway. Super easy and they did not try to offer me less when they collected it

Goldengirl123 · 10/06/2026 12:02

I find them very good an fair

CarelessWimper · 10/06/2026 12:10

Make sure you the spare key and service paperwork. We were going to have quite a bit knocked off for not having it. I found it in the glove box or a lot of it. Even the early stuff will be helpful

ChilledProsecco · 10/06/2026 12:12

I didn’t have the best experience with Motorway, they valued it at 7.2K, but at auction I was offered 5.8K so declined that.

Autotrader said over 8.5k which I didn’t feel was realistic & CBA with a private sale.

Our local garage and also a mechanic friend told us our Toyota Hilux truck which we had had from new was worth about £1000 because of the corrosion underneath (from above it looked very good and the interior was also) and would probably fail its next MOT.
We took it to We buy any car and were offered £3200. Took the offer very willingly and scuttled away as fast as possible in case they changed their mind!
They just sell off the vehicles in bulk at car auctions.

I noticed the truck a few weeks later on Ebay being sold for about £5000. What you could see of the underside had been sprayed with black paint - I suspect no repairs had been done - and it all looked very smart.

MaturingCheeseball · 10/06/2026 12:15

Great experience.

My top tip is to have car properly valeted before turning up. My car was so shiny that the fact the passenger door had come off its hinges and there was a hole in the floor weren’t spotted! (I did state the condition - I’m not totally dishonest - but the man handed over full price straightaway.)

SparklyGlitterballs · 10/06/2026 12:17

I've sold two cars to them. You likely won't get the price offered unless it's absolutely immaculate. They do knock money off for scratches and dings to the bodywork and alloys. Make sure you have plenty of MOT left because they won't take it if there's only a month or so left.

With my second car it was a 65 plate fiat 500. It had ridiculously low mileage on it as it wasn't used often. They offered a price and when I got there they tried to off a fair bit less due to a couple of marks. I walked away. The young guy manning the booth admitted to me that his bosses wanted it due to the low mileage. I got a new MOT and waited a bit. Sure enough a few months later they offered a better price and I sold.

Lindy2 · 10/06/2026 12:20

I used them. I was buying a newer car and the garage gave me a very low trade in price.

We Buy Any Car gave me a much better price which I felt was fair. I could have got more selling privately but I didn't want the hassle or to take people on test drives etc.

It does help to have all service paperwork, 2 keys etc. I had all that and it was very smooth and easy.

Bobbyelvis4ever · 10/06/2026 12:32

We’ve used it before, and got about £400 more than they’d quoted online, somehow!

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 10/06/2026 12:34

I declared everything when obtaining a quote, but when we went to complete the sale, the branch manager tried to make out a small area of damage required two separate repairs. It didn't as it was on the same panel and I'd already declared both scratches. Long story short, he then couldn't justify what he was saying and increased his offer (still not the quoted price) and came out with some nonsense which just didn't apply to a secondhand car. I walked out. It seemed to me their MO was not to pay what you've been quoted, but to exploit your need for the money. I posted a full review on Trust Pilot and complained to their customer services via email. First thing next morning their Retail Director phoned me full of apologies and they honoured the quote.

SpaceAngel1999 · 10/06/2026 13:20

I had a good experience with them. 9 year old fiesta. Ford offered me £3k part ex. Sold it to WBAC for £5k. It was effortless

Pickledonion1999 · 10/06/2026 13:22

We've sold a few to them. Very easy to do and the drop off is just down the road from us. They do always seem to pay out significantly less than the original quote though. Dh gets significantly wound up now when they offer so little so I'm not sure we will use them again.

ChaliceinWonderland · 10/06/2026 13:26

Brilliant experience. My old Citroën was valued at 2300 i got 2k.
Money in my account that afternoon..
Avoid motorway, they do hard sell and turn up at you'r house !!

onlygeese · 10/06/2026 13:30

Yes, it was really easy and we got the quoted price which was more than fair. We were leaving the country so didn't want a trade in deal.

Pippin2017 · 10/06/2026 13:31

We used Motorway earlier this year and were very happy with price and process.

Hito · 10/06/2026 15:55

you'll probably get a better price at motorway or wow.

ChilledProsecco · 10/06/2026 16:35

@Hito- currently been offered over 1.2k more at WBAC compared to Motorway - which is why I was wondering if they’d reduce the offer tomorrow

Unusual. Perhaps they've got afraid og motorway and decided to compete.

PartyDilemma26 · 10/06/2026 16:55

We didn’t use WBAC but used Motorway which is a similar concept. Motorway offered us a lot more than WBAC. It was very simple and no issues at all, even though our car was still on finance at that point. They simply called the finance company and paid the balance, then transferred us the additional cash.

Rather than them buying your car, Motorway are the middle men who auction your car out to registered dealers and then the winning deal comes to collect it.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 10/06/2026 17:00

They'll knock you down on inspection so factor that in. But its convenient and quick!

ChilledProsecco · Yesterday 18:04

Well, I just dropped it off at WBAC & as expected he haggled a bit on price & I pushed back a bit. They will inform DVLA & do paperwork so all I have to do is cancel insurance.

I got £250 more than I would have done on motorway, so just pleased to have it gone.

Thanks again everyone!
