Looking for career advice from successful women!

Looking for advice from anyone who has managed to smash that old glass ceiling in the corporate world - anyone at c-suite or partner level.

I’ve been lurking at the ‘one-layer-below’ senior manager level for years. I’ve changed companies in case that was the problem. I work hard and get good results. I (try) and get on with everyone though the nature of senior management is sometimes people won’t like what you have to say. I really want to progress, I’d love to be CEO of a big company one day - I have vision and ideas and could do a way better job than most of the pale male stale men I see in these roles.

But something is holding me back and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Anyone out there - what did you do to get that final push? What advice would you give to someone hanging out on the next rung down?

Can’t provide advice directly but I follow a lot of women on Instagram who give tips on climbing the ladder - officerealtalk is one, there are loads of others! Good luck x

I asked senior management what they needed to see from me to progress, then I did that.

Literally “what is it that you want from me if I am to progress to the next level? If I do it will you actively support me in moving up.”

I had a mentor too who helped me to sort my thoughts out.

Oh, and worked with a psychologist to help me to amend my ways of working to knock of any traces of procrastination, lack of focus and so on.

That last bit was not cheap, over £300 per half hour, but helped a lot.

My husband helped me a lot too, talking through how I approached issues at work, how I dealt with arseholes and so on.
