Apple Watch cellular

Hi there. Can anyone please explain the difference between a standard Apple Watch and a cellular Apple Watch? I have just read that my watch will not take anymore updates ( had it 6+ years) with a cellular Watch .what are the advantages of the cellular?do o need to get a data plan? It is already paired to my phone. Thank you

A cellular watch has it's own sim so will work independently of your phone.

A normal one needs either to be connected to your phone via bluetooth or to wifi.

I don;t have one but I beleie you can get smekind of e sim add onto your existing data plan
