Book series recommendations for 10 year old girl?

My ten year old has devoured The murder most unladylike series, Malory Towers, Twins of St Clare’s, Naughtiest Girl in the School, and the Worst Witch series, and looking for more boarding school stories, if anyone has any recommendations?

She’s not much enjoying Trebizon as it lacks jolly japes, or murders, and she is finding Scarlet & Ivy quite dull (although maybe it improves)

She will not entertain Harry Potter, though I’ve told her she’s missing out!

Ally’s world by Karen McKombie

not boarding school related but they are very good.

Has the Chalet School aged well enough to recommend does anyone know? I loved it at that age (30 years ago)

New book that would be perfect coming out on 25 June called “Death by detention” common criminals club ( first of two ) imagine secret seven at Malory towers but set in Ireland.Finished an advance copy yesterday and it’s fantastic! Also highly recommend the Justice Jones series by adult writer Ellie Griffiths.Again set in a boarding school in the 1930’s ( but written recently!) finally “ jummy at the River school “by Sabine Adeyinka
All highly recommended

Has she read the Crookhaven books?

inthekitchensink · 09/06/2026 17:44

Great ideas thanks! Does the chalet school have humour or is it quite serious? Haven’t heard of Crookhaven, will check that out thanks. And Justice Jones ( I LOVE Ellie Griffiths) and the others.

What about the Robin Steven’s books? DD was in Yr6 when she read those and I have never read them so I’m not too sure what they’re like

Boys boarding school so its slightly different but I loved Jennings and Darbishire!

Chalet quite old fashioned @inthekitchensink - I loved them, but they are quite niche!

I think the first Alex rider book is a boarding school one, but I might be wrong!

A kind of spark and keedie are great, but they're around ordinary school rather than boarding!
