Like the amount of money needed to be a political player, the increasingly undemocratic nature of both parties, the redrawing of the electoral maps, the lobbyist money, no term limits that facilitate the McConnels etc.

All of those efforts lead, in one away or another, to Trump.

I remember watching Trump's behaviour at Bush Snr's funeral in 2018. He didn't want to be there, and he made sure his annoyance and impatience to be away was captured on camera. After all, he was POTUS and very important, and he had much bigger fish to fry than show respect at a boring funeral.

When he goes even a direct cremation will be too good for him. A full ceremonial would be a travesty after the all the damage and misery he's caused.

I always make the mistake of thinking that there is, in the west, an agreement that democracy is a better system than all the others.

Of course, some do think that, but as you rightly point out, there are many who don't.
