I want to go to Boston in October

It'll be mid October rather than at the end due to work commitments. Autumn is my favourite season I love the film Hocus Pocus! Golden crispy leaves everywhere, cozy dark nights, cooler weather. I love it all.

Is there plenty to do? Is it a good time to go or would November be better? Is Salem worth a trip? Is whale watching a thing in the fall? Will it be absolutely heaving and not even worth going?

Five days, travelling solo. Many thanks

Oh and I've already done NYC and Chicago. NYC was okay. Chicago was phenomenal

I went to Boston for 8 days in September (years ago), it was hot.

Plenty to do, stayed in Back Bay and mainly walked everywhere apart from subway to Harvard. The Freedom Trail guided walk was excellent, dont think youd get as much self-guided. Lovely Burne-Jones stained glass windows in Trinity Church. Amphibious duck tour was fun. Day trip to Provincetown on the fast ferry. Meant to get the train to Concord but failed to plan correctly.
