Could you live in a place like Iran?

I live in Iran where there is always talk of war and a war can start at any moment. The average monthly income here is one hundred dollars (you read that right, only one hundred dollars) and the price of food is increasing every moment. All sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. are blocked and every day many people are imprisoned under the pretext of opposing the government.

I would rather be dead if given the choice but I guess most people aren't given the choice

TheGreatFairyRescue · 06/06/2026 13:08

No thanks

pilates · 06/06/2026 13:10

No. MN not blocked then?

Jasmin71 · 06/06/2026 13:51

I would be killed I think. Or at least persecuted for my paganism. I wouldn't set foot in any islamic theocracy.

Cheesecakeismeesecake · 06/06/2026 13:58

I thought there was a total web blackout?

Yuck, no chance.

Rituelec · 06/06/2026 15:34

My friend would. She thinks its a huge conspiracy and wants to date and Iranian man..

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 06/06/2026 15:34

I’d be stoned for calling someone a cunt or something.

Firesidechatter · 06/06/2026 15:36

How can you post on here rhen?

Yetanotherone12 · 06/06/2026 15:41

Well.

iran, yes. It’s on my bucket list. They country is beautiful, interesting, and I’ve never met an Iranian I didn’t like.

in the current situation no. If it went back to how it was in the 60’s, progressive, women leading education etc, then yes, I would.

Say what now?

Why does she think it's a conspiracy? There's many Iranians in London who fled the current regime.

EasternStandard · 06/06/2026 17:04

No but how are you posting?

NO

WoollyandSarah · 06/06/2026 19:39

It would be incredibly hard, but worldwide a huge number of people live hard lives. They don't have a choice.

If you were a woman, then "hard" doesn't begin to cover it!

My point is really that people don't have a choice, rather than debating levels of hard.

I'm not really sure what the OP's point is. No one is going to say, "bring it on, I'd love to live there".

ainsleysanob · 06/06/2026 20:36

No, I wouldn’t. I would neither live in or wish to mingle with people whose ‘culture’ tells me what to wear, what to think and who to be. I will never and would never even visit a place where my opinion would get me shot.

This.

Meaowth33 · 06/06/2026 20:45

Not willingly no but if I was born there I wouldn't have much choice about it so I'd just have to get on with it as best as I could. And maybe if i was really lucky or resourceful, I would be able to leave.

I don't even approach the subject anymore. Its just ridiculous and like talking to a brick wall.

JacknDiane · 06/06/2026 21:18

That sounds incredibly tough @Rezahv

ChurchYardFromMyWindow · 06/06/2026 21:29

Every day I count my blessings and living somewhere not like Iran is always on the list.
