My Dragon's Den Idea (if I could actually design it) would be....

.... bins for sanitary products that actually work. (Yes, I know - Mooncups - but they don't work for everyone or in all situations)

Even leaving aside the fact that they're rarely emptied regularly enough, these things are useless. The little foot-depressor thing is never where you can reach it - often the bin has been placed the wrong way round so the depressor is against the cubicle wall. Even if not, it's rarely in a place where you can easily access it while holding the full tampon you just removed, hence still not having been able to pull up pants or trousers. So you try to sort of nudge up the little hatch without touching it, because it's covered in blood stains and probably a pad whose sticky bit means it's still stuck at the top.

Like I say in the title - I have no idea how these could be better, but I feel sure they could. What would anyone else patent, if they could? (or does anyone know how these could be better? or, better yet, have any knowledge of better systems?)

Do you not wrap it in loo roll? Maybe I’m wrong for doing this?

Sure, but that's all part of it not being ideal, right?

I wrap it in the packet of the new one I am replacing it with - works for tampons and sanitary towels.

And still doesn't make it any easier to access the actual way to open the bin....

I am designing edible socks for young kids . My theory is that they so often get lost , so they may as well be disposable, but that would be bad for the environment. So instead they are made of a cross between very fine sugar paper and candy floss string . ( not thought this bit through yet !) . At the end of the day the kid just eats the socks . No more odd socks … would you invest ?!

A wheelchair for dementia patients that faces the person pushing the wheelchair, so the patient doesn't keep trying to get out of the wheelchair because they can't see where their carer is.

The other day I saw someone sat on a walker being pushed by a carer. That's almost the same thing.

Yes, that would work as long as they were able to sit on something without a proper back and sides. My mum really needs the back support but she will not settle in a wheelchair, she keeps trying to get up and saying "Where's (person who is pushing her)?"

Calorie free chocolate. Whoever invents this would become an instant millionaire.

Can't say it sounds all that appetising!

Can you install a plastic rear view mirror like the kind you stick on the side of a bike?

My dragon's den idea is a reusable water bottle that opens out in half longways so that it washes properly in the dishwasher

Good thought but my mum is beyond the stage of being able to grasp the concept of looking in a mirror.😔

A washing line for wheelchair users

A gadget to open things like bottles of bleach where you have to twist and push down at the same time

Semi permanent sunscreen. You get dipped in it in spring and it wears off by autumn.

HugoThatway · 08/06/2026 22:47

@GoldenPineapple15 , Get a labrador. It will eat their socks.

ThisOneIsMine · 08/06/2026 23:04

@CreativeGreenmaybe a sensor to open the lid hands free.

Yanbu about the bin pedal location. The awkward flick and throw of the flap is a hideous pastime.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/06/2026 23:35

Tbh op I think what’s needed first is to design women’s loos better - a bit bigger and outward opening door so there’s more usable room (and safer), then place the loo a bit off centre so there’s more room for the bin.

Oh yes please. In the highly unlikely event I ever became a Dragon, I’d be ALL over this idea.

a toaster that's dishwasher safe

you can never get all the crumbs out, the little drawer thing is useless for that.

@beigetriangle, I just tip mine upside down - outside because the crumbs go everywhere.

BillieWiper · 09/06/2026 13:29

They have contracts with firms like phs. I don't think regular staff can do it, it has to be an outside company? Is that right? Or is it just they don't want to?
