Mine's a good old lemon drizzle!
Shop bought is way too sweet.

Carrot cake

BillieWiper · 03/06/2026 16:20

Probably some lush exotic one I'm incapable of making!
I can make decent carrot cake, fatless sponge, regular sponge and a chocolate cake I DK if it's shit or not as I hate chocolate cake.

Courgette cake, I make an ace one, and it is covered in lemon icing. Is so good.

I don't like lemon drizzle cake at ALL, but I do love a lemon cake - it's just the drizzle bit I don't like.

There used to be somebody who made cakes for the post office shop in the village my mum lived in and hers were always good. I think the best was a plum and almond cake, but the coffee and walnut was very good too.

My best home made cake is a Delia recipe for sultana tea bread. Absolutely delicious with some butter on it.

Carrot cake, Victoria sandwich and lemon and blueberry muffins 🤩

sprigatito · 03/06/2026 16:25

Probably the toffee apple cake I make at Halloween…or Black Forest gateau

nonmerci99 · 03/06/2026 16:28

I couldn’t pick one, to be honest. Today I made a Danish dream cake and it’s absolutely lush. Carrot cake, coffee walnut and citrus yogurt are all top contenders for favourite “everyday” cakes.

FastFood · 03/06/2026 16:53

My lemon drizzle cake is fantastic - I add just a bit of bergamot in it, it gives a lot of depth to the citrus repertoire.

I love doing crepe layered cake, they take ages to make, it's a proper project. I'm going to do a matcha mousse one soon.

Mary Berry's malted chocolate malteser cake as it always turns out well and family love it.

Ooh are we allowed to ask for the recipe?

My favourite home made cake is coconut and lime.

katscamel · 03/06/2026 18:59

I'm not a cake maker but have to say that I am rather proud of my ginger cake.

Luckydog7 · 03/06/2026 19:09

I make an incredible caramel cake. The butter and sugar components for the sponge are caramelised first before mixing into everything else so the actual cake tastes of caramel (a pet peeve is plain sponge with caramel icing being called caramel cake). I then use a shop bought (so it's shelf stable) caramel sauce to mix into the buttercream for filling and topping, then caramel/blond chocolate on top.

Whataflippincircus · 03/06/2026 19:19

Boiled fruit cake. I add orange and lemon peel and chopped prunes.

My baking repoitoire is small
Rock cakes and mini jam sponges

Chocolate. My mum’s recipe. She used to whip up a chocolate cake before breakfast sometimes. Nothing like waking up to the smell of freshly baking cake.

Carrot cake for me as well. This one is a particular favourite:

Or a Victoria sponge with cream and jam.

somanychristmaslights · 03/06/2026 19:56

Any cake. Shop bought cake is always a massive letdown.

PermanentTemporary · 03/06/2026 19:58

Bara brith, or Madeira cake.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/06/2026 19:59

Very hard to pick just one. Dundee cake is lovely. I use this recipe, which includes marmalade and whisky. https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/dundee_cake_22157

Carrot cake (altho I do find this to be a randomly fickle bastard sometimes, normally amazing, occasionally terribly uncooperative!) or golden syrup sponge.
