What is people's experience of buying from Temu? I never have bought anything but there are some nice items on there which I am considering. I have heard that returns are difficult, so is it worth it? Thanks.

They are just gathering your data. Also how ethical is it. Do you need any of that stuff. Buy less, buy local.

Harrriet · 03/06/2026 10:56

I never will buy from Temu, I have watched a few you tube videos though and they haven't changed my mind

Jedentag · 03/06/2026 11:00

No.

CatsAreUs · 03/06/2026 11:02

Buy all the time never had an issue and never needed to return anything so thats not been a problem for me personally

ToKittyornottoKitty · 03/06/2026 11:04

I’ve had some rubbish stuff and some great stuff, check the reviews on items before you buy

KurtCobainLover · 03/06/2026 11:05

I've had some great stuff from Temu - as pp said, check the reviews before ordering.

More and more ‘local’ involves local reselling crap from Temu anyway just with a mark up, especially at markets near me. No retail is perfect

Wexone · 03/06/2026 14:11

I could never buy from them. they are up there with shein on their practices. there is nothing any one needs to buy from them.

Littledidsheknow · 03/06/2026 14:23

I’ve noticed that that the cheap Chinese crap on Temu is literally identical to the cheap Chinese crap on Amazon, only 50% cheaper!
Everywhere sells cheap Chinese crap these days.

AhMh67 · 03/06/2026 14:26

I've bought a few adult Disney T-shirts and they have been good size and quality is ok.

AnchorWHAT · 03/06/2026 14:34

Almost everything i have bought has been good. The odd thing i haven't liked has been easy to return, just tick the box on order give a reason for return, print off a label at the evri parcel shop and send. Often they have said keep it and they refund anyway.

V true. I bought something from Debenhams recently and it was a crap Chinese toy and because it was 3rd party (didn’t know before ordering), it was a nightmare getting a refund. Debenhams who you’d expect better of are now just a drop shipper.

Most main retailers have turned into drop shippers for this crap. You can always tell it’s Chinese because you struggle to get a refund and they try and fob you off with a partial refund. Sick of these products flooding the market and how deceptive some of it is at masquerading as British made.

WillieBanjo · 03/06/2026 15:14

Jusy bought a hand held rechargeable jet was from them for £13 . My neighbour bought same one out of a magazine for £45.

Also noticed that some stuff on there is the same as homebrand items from supermarkets and discount retailers.

As pp says it’s nearly all from china anyway

BillieWiper · 03/06/2026 15:25

I've a mate who buys clothes from there and they often look awful. But I do buy clothes from Shein myself and don't think they look awful.

But they're different garments. Like my pal would buy like a coat whereas I wouldn't trust one of those retailers for something meant to be that sturdy. I buy joggers, t shirts etc from shein and a couple dresses and knickers. They're all fine.

So is temu worse? Idk but for some reason I feel less likely to use it. They bombarded me with so much crap when I just looked at something once. They're still doing it now and it's been years!

I avoided Temu for years for ethical reasons. Then I realised that the stuff on Amazon and lots of other shops, including Etsy is from the same factories in China, but sold at inflated prices. I had to conclude that all I was doing by avoiding it was paying several times more than I needed to, so I gave in and started shopping there. I prefer the items with reviews that include photos (many do), but if something is inexpensive, I’ll take a chance. I have contacted them for manybe 3 items over several large orders that I haven’t been happy with. One was a scratch on a handbag, another bag had glue on one of the seams. They require photos. They didn’t require the items to be returned and issued an immediate credit to my account. Refunds to the original payment take two days. I have a faux suede bag from them that is fabulous. It cost £15. I have had compliments on it and a woman working in an opticians raved about it, wanting to know where I’d got it from. She thought it was designer and was stunned when I told her it was £15 from Temu. Most bags we can buy are made in China and shipped across the world anyway. I’m a sewist and buy lots of sewing supplies of Temu so much cheaper than elsewhere. I bought some lovely buttons recently at 25% of the cost for the identical ones off Etsy. Apparently. Lots of sellers from Etsy buy stuff in bulk off Temu to sell at a much higher price 🤷‍♀️ If your order is over £15, P&P is free.

StrikeForever · 03/06/2026 15:33

Oh yes, to avoid data harvesting, I don’t use my main email on Temu and only use PayPal for payment so Temu doesn’t need to store my address. Also never download the app, as apparently, it bombards the user with all sorts of crap (ads, dodgy competitions and vouchers). I just stick to the website and all is well.

DilemmaDelilah · 03/06/2026 17:57

Check sizes and what things are made of VERY carefully. I have had a couple of awful things that looked great in the photos, but I have also had several things that were good.

My DH is a Temu fan and I wish he wasn't. He doesn't check what things are made of so he has some really awful slimy shirts. He also bought (quite a nice) detailed short recently and despite the fact that it was definitely a man's short it buttoned up the wrong way. However returns are easy.

BurtsBeefCrisps · 03/06/2026 22:17

Nope, for ethical reasons, I cannot buy from them, they score the lowest on every element of production from animal welfare to labour conditions and environment. I appreciate we now live in a society where many don’t care about this stuff but I wish they did.
Aside from all this, I understand some nasty chemicals are involved in some of the products so I would also have concerns about safety.

shellyleppard · 03/06/2026 22:18

I've tried using the website but can't get past all the special offers/discounts 😞

cannynotsay · 03/06/2026 22:28

Everything I’ve bought has ended up binned don’t e wasteful minded like I was

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 03/06/2026 22:33

I’ve never bought anything from
Shein or Temu and I don’t want to buy anything from Amazon or Ebay if it means importing directly from China.

This is because there appears to be a loophole in the law which means that products imported directly from China don’t need to meet UK health and safety standards. To try to avoid this issue, I buy from UK importers whose products have a CE mark as a minimum.

durdledoris · 03/06/2026 22:35

Very hit and miss, sent something back and got refund the next day - won't be using them again as quality was rubbish

TallMam · 03/06/2026 22:39

I'd never buy their clothing but there is a lot of stuff you find in store that is just "crap from Temu".
I.e. the brand Outsunny is being sold in many places but you can buy it directly of Temu for much less.

Portakalkedi · 03/06/2026 22:44

I've bought kitchen stuff, spatulas, food vac bags, lolly moulds etc, fine, same as on Amazon but cheaper. I would not buy anything electrical, or toys, cosmetics etc as they would not be to UK standard/safety regs.

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/06/2026 22:49

I love it. It’s often the same stuff on Amazon but it’s 1/2 of the price but have to wait 7 working days to get it usually

where Amazon is next day

tho some stuff can be in 2/3 business days like a fan I’ve brought

it’s really easy to return stuff - take a pic and free returns

sometimes they offer for you to keep it and refund as cheaper then them having to pay postage to return

ive had some great deals and brought

Garden rattan furniture
make up table for dd
hoover
microwave
air fryer (40 was 100 on Amazon)
sun lounger and cushions
canvas pics
lampshades
towels
new clothes for me as lost weight
clothes for dd
shoes
winter boots £14 and Amazon £30
suitcases

basically anything and everything

nothing has broken or fallen apart etc
