No-Faggots,god knows why but I loved them.
Liver.Dont fancy it at all 30 years later.

Yes-Angel Delight, still occasionally have the Butterscotch one.I would still eat Potted beef in a sandwich and probably really enjoy it.

Wouldn’t eat: meat, red cabbage and sauerkraut. They all appeared every weekend throughout my childhood.

Stuffed heart! Still gives me nightmares and probably why I have been a non meat eater for nearly 39 years. On the fond memory side I have steamed spotted dick with custard. The seventies was a time of hearty rib sticking food quite literally. God bless my arteries.

At school, we were served unknown meat and someone asked what it was. It was heart, cue 400 girls screaming and refusing to eat it! 😂
My DH ate sugar sandwiches as a child, and still would given half a chance. I had no idea they were a thing. Might explain why he has dentures though!

Paste jars are so useful when you need a little container.

I ate liver when young and still do. I don't know whether our butcher sold faggots when I was a child but the current butcher does and I sometimes buy a couple. Nice.

Good quality faggots from a high end butcher are lovely I think - often have them in winter as a Sunday dinner - I think a lot were put off by Brains mush ones

Are you German?

My father was a German PoW. We couldn’t mention the war but we had to eat the food he grew up with!

wantmorenow · 31/05/2026 19:29

Out - camp coffee made with milk, tinned ravioli (thought it was a sophisticated Italian meal) on toast though, boiled ham and cabbage with overcooked potatoes boiled in their skins.
In- would love to eat my mum's toad in the hole with proper gravy, whole cooking apples filled with sultanas and sugar then baked long and slow, lemon meringue pie made from a little box kit thing that eggs were added to, yolks in lemon bit and whites to make meringue.

SisterTeatime · 31/05/2026 19:31

I’m not German and we were always eating sauerkraut and red cabbage in our house. I don’t like sauerkraut much.

i eat very little meat and don’t miss the offal of my childhood but I used to love corned beef! Delicious.

Butterscotch instant whip with cornflakes underneath. I’d eat that now I think!

I absolutely love tinned fruit but like pp, evaporated milk no!

Something I loved as a child was the little decorative orange and lemon slices. I used to hide in the larder and eat them.

Wouldn’t -
angel delight (too sickly)
Maxwell House coffee sachets

Would -
Walnut whips (I realised the other day they’ve been discontinued 😢)
Sponge and custard

Our local Farmfoods sells Walnut Whips. I suspect these days they’ve been no nearer to an actual walnut than they have the moon, but I was very tempted to get a pack anyway.

Hmmmmwineandchocs · 31/05/2026 19:44

No - muscles, cockles, tapioca, semolina.

Yes - rice pudding, angel delight (love it!)

AltitudeCheck · 31/05/2026 19:45

No to textured vegetable protein chunks, the kind that came dried and looked like dog food.

Yes (I would nostalgically like to but I don't eat) to arctic roll, packet custard, banana sandwiches and Frosties with full fat milk

Ha, I’m off to Dusseldorf and Rhine valley next week - I can’t stand sauerkraut , but my H loves it - so it will be pork knuckles for him and sauerkraut and mushroom sauce and schnitzels and spetzel for me - luckily Duss has a whole street of great oriental places and we both like that -

Fish paste sandwiches - I don’t think I ate them with the joy in the first place but I didn’t want to be rude I think, same goes for that horrible hamburger relish stuff. See also Christmas Pudding for desserts.

Everything else I continue to eat!

We used to visit family friends and they would always give me a salmon paste sandwich 🤢

M&S do their own version of Walnut Whips. Happy days!

Interesting that on another thread on favourites from the chippy is …
Saveloy, a type of sausage made from pigs brains emulsified with added spices such as ginger, sage and pepper served in a roll and dipped in cooking fat served with pease pudding 🤣🤣🤣

MissAmbrosia · 31/05/2026 20:20

I used to love Sugarpuffs and Rice Crispies - wouldn't bother with with either now. Things like pressed tongue and spam fritters I might try for nostalgic reasons. I like Sandwich Spread and have a jar in the cupboard :) Those frozen french bread pizzas - nah. Or any kind of breadcrumbed chicken or turkey product. My nan made the world's best scotch eggs. Even the Heston M&S ones are not nearly as good. I would kill for one.

Notasbigasithink · 31/05/2026 20:23

I was force fed the following on a weakly basis as a child and still have nightmares.... 🤢🤢🤢
Tinned marrow fat peas that turned everything green with that awful liquid they came in.
Frey bentos stake and kidney pie
Goulash or whatever it was called
Dumplings
Dripping on toast
Lamb of any kind
Stewing steak where you could see the veins and grissle running through it 😭😭
Rice pudding with skin forming
Evaporated milk

Enigma54 · 31/05/2026 20:29

Wouldn’t eat a Findus crispy pancake.
But, would love a slice of arctic roll!

ilovepixie · 31/05/2026 20:31

Wouldn’t eat
Vesta Curry
Crispy Pancakes
Bernard Matthew meats

Still eat
fish fingers
spaghetti hoops
cocca pops

Jshkag · 31/05/2026 20:32

Boiled cow tongue.
Just awful 😞

Redburnett · 31/05/2026 20:35

Luncheon meat.
Not sure if it counts as food but small sweets on elastic that we wore as a necklace while sucking the sugar out.......(1960s)
Fried liver, complete with tubes.

Are they the ‘original’ walnut whips, or a knock off?

Oh crikey, you poor thing. That is bloody awful.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 31/05/2026 20:40

Would eat: most things, really! Corned beef hash is still a comfort food.

Wouldn't touch with a barge pole: Bernard Matthews turkey drummers, turkey twizzlers, and Angel Delight was a letdown last time I made it. I don't bother buying bacon either, as my grandfather was the best at making bacon sandwiches (TBF, I think it was the only thing that he could cook without instructions...), and as he is no longer around, bacon just doesn't taste right!

PetrolKoala · 31/05/2026 20:46

Cold porridge that turned into a weird jelly like texture in the fridge. It was breakfast, lunch and dinner for the majority of meals and was absolutely nauseating. I would still eat spaghetti hoops.
