I want to have a better relationship to my phone and set an example for my children

I currently mainly use it for

  • work emails
  • whatsapp DH and friends
  • search queries on google
  • scrolling instagram (I know!!)
  • banking
  • listening to podcasts
  • listening to music
  • Sat-nav on google maps
  • Reading Substack
  • taking videos of my kids
  • school apps/parentpay
  • to-do lists on notes app
  • period & HRT tracker

I just feel like it dominates my life :(

my screen time is 5-6 hrs a day

I really want to set a better example to my kids, especially when it come to them having their own phones (Currently aged 6 & 9; albeit they will have brick phones only until they’re 16)

⭐️ Has anyone successfully set better phone habits in their family???

My DH is probably worse than me and is equally frustrated

I really want to get a landline again, and a watch!

Somehow we lived without the damn things before!

Would welcome any ideas/suggestions x

There are minimalist phones out there that only have a few apps on. They're also in monochrome on the screen, so no attractive colours to lure you in.

I'm currently in the process of escaping from the google android ecosystem by installing a different operating system which is more plain and doesn't have all the ads, tracking, monitoring etc. It's less flashy and dopamine inducing. You can't have your banking app on it, but I'll just keep my Samsung to access that.

It was either this or a Nokia 3310 😂
