Is anyone else skipping a summer holiday because of new jobs?

Starting to think about summer. We've had a rough year with DH being made redundant etc. He's literally just started a new job this week. I start a new job in around a month. We haven't booked anything holiday wise and I'm seriously tempted to not this year. Financially and due to new jobs. But we have a 9 &12 year old so not sure if I'm being unreasonable and we should do a few long weekends away or camping?

Anyone just not bothering?

I took half the summer off switching jobs last year. As it was unpaid we didn’t go away but I got time with DD. We had lots of days out locally but live in a really lovely place close to the sea

Under the circumstances that’s absolutely fine. Do a few nice days out and a weekend away if possible. Don’t put yourself under any financial pressure as before you know it summer will be over and Christmas around the corner and you will be playing catch up if you have overstretched yourself financially .

@SparkyBlue thank you- thats how i feel, we are definitely stretched financially and yes school uniforms and then Christmas will be here before we know it!
@SummerFleurs this is what I'm thinking- days out.
I should add, I will take the dc to my parents for a few nights as we always do (dh sometimes comes but often stays with the dogs) so they will have a change of scenery.
