My daughter is now 18 and at uni, will be home for about a month then back to uni.
When I requote for our home insurance with three adults the price goes up £60
She has insurance for with accommodation do I just leave her off home policy now?
advice appreciated

For £60 a year I would just keep her on there.

I am the tight one that does the finances, he just says pay the extra

The thing is, insurance companies will do anything to wriggle out of paying a claim - so for the sake of £60 it seems silly to take her off. Wait until she's moved out permanently.

Can you try a different insurance company? Or are you part way through the policy?

Our adult DD has come back to our house to live for a few months. The quote including her was about £3 cheaper.

Wonderknicks · 30/05/2026 12:22

For a slight increase ours covered the kids at uni. Have you tried that option?

MegCleary · 30/05/2026 12:48

Up for yearly renewal and she’s turned 18 so three adults just flew it up.
i hear it’s probably wise to pay it but it annoys me.

I’ve never been asked how many people live in my house when getting house insurance. Didn’t know it was a thing! My house insurance is due for renewal soon, is it something I should be asking about?

MegCleary · 31/05/2026 19:48

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn Every quote I ever made asked for how many in house. This year it went up as dd18 and makes it 3 adults one child!

For £60 I’d definitely pay of shop around and see if you can get it cheaper anywhere else.
@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOnits definitely a question I’ve been asked for years. How many adult and how many children live at the address. It’s maybe something you’ve just answered without registering the question.

TeenLifeMum · 31/05/2026 20:18

I just checked with dh and ours didn’t go up much at all. Dd was 18 in February. I’d shop around.
