Favourite animals

I love sharks and crocodiles and alligators.

Sharks are amazing as no one has ever seen them mate, most of them are shy and all the misconceptions about them being killers are exaggerated. Sharks mostly mistake humans as seals, so food.

Crocs/alligators, well they’re just so awesome. Prehistoric like. The mothers are great, make nests for their young and hiss at predators. Babies are cute, I’ve held one. Again, if you go in their territory they may attack because you know, you’re food. Maybe not their preferred food. Salties in particular are very aggressive.

I have several books about these, have seen them in person and on tv. I’m in 2 minds about cage diving with sharks, not sure if it’s unkind to them. My favourite cuddly toys are these too.

I'm quite fond of sharks, well, shark movies really. I always root for the sharks.

I prefer cute derpy animals like capybaras, armadillos or bush babies!😁

I like mammals, very little interest in reptiles or fish. Some birds are okay. My favourite animals are things that look like they’d give a good cuddle, like red pandas.

I love all animals I can’t pick a favourite 🤩

OneDreamyGreenMentor · 29/05/2026 11:18

Haven’t really thought about my favourite animals in over 25 years, what a wonderful thread.

Obviously I love the usual, standard pet animals like cats, dogs, small mammals, fish and horses, but that’s quite normal.

If we’re focusing on non domesticated animals, I’d say my favourites are Orcas, Nurse sharks and Weasels. I also love Giraffes and Tigers
I don’t think I’d be able to pick a favourite out of those

I love red pandas, they are so cute but I would have to say my favorite is tigers. I have always loved tigers ever since I was a little girl. I have a collection of various toy tigers. And even went to a fancy dress party as a tiger once.

I love any animal that isn’t someone’s pet. Nothing wrong with people having pets of course, but I just love to see animals doing their natural thing. I’m particularly fond of birds.

Gorillas specifically mountain Gorillas because their babies are probably the cutest thing you will ever see. Im also partial to red pandas

Oh I do love tigers and black panthers too, most big cats.

I have always had a soft spot for maybugs (cockchafers).

They have such a fascinating lifecycle. They spend up to 7 years living under the soil as a larvae. Then they undergo a metamorphasis and turn into a flying beetle. They then spend 2-3 weeks flying around looking for a mate and laying eggs before they die.

We only see them when they fly around in that last 3 weeks of their life.

I would love a pet capybara. They escape a lot, though. This one fetched up on the lawn of the Complet Angler at Marlow. So they have a taste for the high life.

THE world's largest rodent, normally only found in South America, is on the loose near Marlow, with a search underway to find it.

Pygmy hippos (for 20+ years not just since Moo Deng!)
And ferrets. A friend used to have 5 and it was absolute carnage, people say cats are 'chaos gremlins' and I just assume they've never spent an afternoon with a ferret!
