Guilty pleasures

Currently listening to a freida Mcfadden book while doing the cooking and housework. Her books are so terribly written and predictable but such a guilty pleasure! Something mindless when doing the boring chores. Anyone else got any guilty pleasures?

Jackie Collins. I absolutely love the Santangelo series.

StrawberryMatchaLatte · 28/05/2026 18:34

I also love Freida McFadden. Currently reading The Divorce.

PinkMagnoliaTree · 28/05/2026 18:36

Which one? The wife upstairs was the first I read - someone on here recommended her to get me out of a reading slump and it did!

Haha fair enough! I've only read The Housemaid but I never understood the hype....the "twist" was completely obvious?

My guilty pleasure is watching The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It is wonderfully ridiculous trash!

NimbleHiker · 28/05/2026 18:49

My guilty pleasure is the deptq books.

MyChicGoldQuail · 28/05/2026 18:51

Mine is definitely reality TV, can't stop watching those house renovation shows even though they stress me out more than relax me 😂 also guilty of eating the kids' chocolate biscuits after bedtime and blaming it on them 🍫

Was just coming on to say this!!!! Absolutely love anything Jackie Collins

Whettlettuce · 28/05/2026 18:57

My guilty pleasure is listening to scary viewers stories on YouTube 😂

SpottyAlpaca · 28/05/2026 18:59

Mumsnet…

Same here.

And the Shopaholic books. I don't even like shopping or clothes, but I loved all of those.

In fact, pretty much all the books I read are trash, popular fiction or easy crime stuff like Vera or Peter James.

Every time I read one of those lists of 100 greatest books to read before you die, I've usually read hardly any of them, not even heard of them, or tried them and gave up on them because they were dull and/or too difficult.

eg I tried Little Women and gave up because it was boring.

Hello fellow Jackie lover! Which is your favourite? I'm re-reading Lucky for the millionth time.
I'm still so sad she died. She was fabulous.

Bobbieiris · 28/05/2026 21:45

@PinkMagnoliaTree it's the wife upstairs! I read the housemaid and another one (can't remember the name) when I was pregnant and exhausted. Such good brain fluff for when you're tired!
@StrawberryMatchaLatte ooo is it good? Which others have you read?
@DreamingOfGeneHunt I've never read Jackie Collins but think I would love them....rivals is so good!
@Bjorkdidit I also love the shopaholic books...I find them comforting lol.
@GameOfJones I love real housewives too!
Starting to realise I have more than just one guilty pleasure lol

I read Hollywood Wives when I was 11 🤣 a school friend lent it to me out of her parents book collection. It was an education for sure!

Yep, I was 14 when I read Lucky for the first time and I learnt an awful lot more from it than I did from school sex ed!!

SunSeaSangria · 28/05/2026 22:48

@NimbleHiker will have to look out for these, the TV series was a good watch.

Currently reading Freida McFadden Inmate, decent read but predictable.

SparklyBrickViper · 28/05/2026 22:53

Real Housewives

Uncanny Podcast.

Whataflippincircus · 28/05/2026 22:57

Watching Homes under the Hammer

beasmithwentworth · 28/05/2026 23:00

Oh goodness so many guilty pleasures. Yes all manner of Frieda McFadden type books - but I prefer the UK (Lisa Jewell ) based ones which feel a bit more relatable.
Celebs go dating, Chat GPT (for almost everything… I know), Words with Friends, Ham and salt and Vinegar Crisp sandwiches, doing Wordle then doomscrolling for an hour, vaping. I mean the list is endless!

DaisyGivemeyouranswer · 28/05/2026 23:27

Absolute shite tv. Pretty much anything Bravo related, and I'm currently rewatching all of Wife Swap on YouTube. It's utter crap. I love it 🤣

Also black pudding, pork scratchings, and eating in bed.

MyChicGoldQuail · 29/05/2026 10:16

My guilty pleasure is a strong coffee and 20 minutes of absolute silence after the kids are in bed 😂 pure bliss!

Squirrelchops1 · 29/05/2026 10:22

There's nothing like reading a Jackie Collins particularly when on a sunbed.

I love astoundingly shite tv...like others have said Real Housewives, The Valley, Below Deck.
