I could not agree with you more @Notonthestairs .

Same.

Farage still hasnt been able to provide a reason for the £5 million payment.

It's weeks now and no clear answers.

If this had been any other politician the Mail/Telegraph/Times would have wall to wall coverage every day until an investigation was launched.

And then there would be a deep dive in to the cars/houses owned by the politician, any previous relationships and a list of their last five holidays.

After that there would be profiles of everyone involved in the investigation - with at least one reference to Sue Grey - and an expose of the private schools their kids attend and the cost of their houses etc.

Weird lack of engagement from certain media quarters.

I quite agree, and sadly I'm not surprised.

I thought he said it was for Brexit, after he changed his mind about it being to pay for his security.

That can’t be right. That would be payment related to political activities and as such would have needed to have been properly disclosed.

So we still don’t have a reason why it needed to remain private.

Of course we do. It was to avoid tax.

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2026 16:16

how very dare you.

BIossomtoes · 28/05/2026 16:28

Are bribes gifts taxable?

Notonthestairs · 28/05/2026 16:35

No. I think Dan Neidle has a paper & thread on this.
That said I dont think enough information has been released regarding the circumstances - funnily enough.

Not as far as I know.

But "gift" has a very narrow meaning for the purposes of taxation.

I will just remark that when I was a regular attendee at a blockchain and c$ypto working group (because I was in FinTech strategy) I met even more crooks than when I was in property software. When you realise you are surrounded by people who would make estate agents embarrassed, you know it's dodgy.

As I have said since 2011 or so (whenever I acquired some BTC), the more interesting part is the state machine that is the blockchain.

Incidentally, if anyone can't join the dots of why c$ypto is such a fetish for the Alt-Right ... it's because it would allow the holy grail of differential valued currencies to finally become real. Or TL;DR, your "pounds" are not worth the same as Nigel Farages. If you don't have to look up "truck acts" you will get the idea. I imagine someone like Bezos waiting for the day he can pay his employees in "Amazon dollars"

Not inheritance and if above the threshold for tax, which is generous for most people living in the UK, it isn't either.

Obviously if you're a member of the royal family then the rules are sometimes different. Depending on the will being made public, which never happens.

placemats · 28/05/2026 19:59

No that's not true.

Most businesses are not hiring young people because they would have to pay them more. Best get the oldies in for hospitality. For the laughs your sure to get them customers back.

Musk could really do with a lesson in unintended consequences.

Lowe has doubled down on his comparing the raping of young girls on an 'industrial scale' in 'every town and city across the country' to the Holocaust.

Lowe has doubled down on his comparing the raping of young girls on an 'industrial scale' in 'every town and city across the country' to the Holocaust.

Sigh - what is wrong with this man - how absolutely abhorrent is he. How many does he not care about offending and upsetting.

He is doing his own ‘enquiry’ on £700k crowdfunded donations (for comparison the last official one cost £18m) - no transparency, no legal status etc and there is a debate as to whether these victims are being used by the right - I tend to think so - they’re effectively being raped all over again - and that too is disgusting and abhorrent.

I particularly love the ‘foreign interference’ bigging Lowe up - oh no that’s a lie - but I do love he and Nige May scupper each other.

Llttledrummergirl · 29/05/2026 14:18

Lowe needs to fucking educate himself.

I think most of the minimising of the Holocaust is coming from him,Musk and their gang of flag waving thugs.

He can fuck off to the far side of fuck.

If anyone else tells me that the Holocaust wasn't that bad because of other horrific historical events and that the fascists only did what people have done through history then I might not be held responsible.

They are utter scum.

Haven’t read the thread since I left on holiday - will catch up later! Here’s a pic of Hanioti seafront I the sunshine. I’m enjoying the political detox.
