None of my three children can drive. My youngest daughter tried valiantly to pass her test, 14 years ago, and it cost her dad and myself almost a £1000. She lives in London now, zone 2, so transport is far better and cheaper, than owning a car.

I have friends who have never even attempted to do the driving test. I don't judge. Obviously.

Eta I can drive and love it.

I didn't know about Aaron Banks comments or Farage reading the sun on the Hillsborough anniversary either. Grubby.

I'm listening to the Newsagents. I had no idea that police officers had been named (incorrectly in at least one case) on twitter. Musk rallying for more violence.

I saw a screenshot yesterday of tweets criticising Mark Novak's speech - suggesting, amongst other things, that he can't have loved his son.

I don't know how much lower some people can go - but it seems they can.

If you have a bar - however low - folk go and limbo right on under it. Who are these people who not only form an incomprehensible assumption from something effectively online, not someone you know, then feel obliged to broadcast it - I have no words for such idiots or scum or maybe both.

BIWI · 04/06/2026 19:44

@Llttledrummergirl I really don't think I could do that! I'm a terrible backseat driver at the best of times Grin
I'm a very confident driver, and do all the driving here. Just can't stand being a passenger.

placemats · 04/06/2026 19:45

They are scum. They call those who are struggling with grief liars.

TemperanceWest · 04/06/2026 19:59

I have hidden the thread I mentioned, it makes me feel sick. Am off to watch something soothing.

I've never had a lesson. First I couldn't afford it then I didn't have time and then I realised that I should never be behind the wheel of a car anyway. My sister failed her test many times before giving up. We're similarly wired.

I've made sure that I live in a locality with very good public transport and meeting the 15 minute city criteria, for the boys' sake, as much as mine. My parents prioritised space for all my dad's hobby stuff which meant a remote village and while they have a good community (for my mum, my dad has no friends there) they now have poor health and failing eyesight and 2 buses a day to nowhere useful.

I’m back from Greece. Had a great time - too much wine and a lot of laughter. I enjoyed being less tied to the news so will try and maintain that now I’m home.
Congrats to mini @pointythings - as we landed in Birmingham yesterday the couple next to me switched on a phone and made a call - I wondered what the emergency was until he turned to me beaming and said ‘my daughter just passed her driving test!’ Was a lovely moment.

Haha - need that vote splitting for sure. Whilst I have voted both Green and LibDem in the past I’m pleased they’re not doing a lot to split the Labour vote here.

Ooh - glad you had a great time - I don’t understand how there can ever be ‘too much wine’ though? lol.

Hope you are well rested and refreshed - you may have missed Farage’s complete misread of political/lot of public opinion over the awful Henry Nowak affair - but I’m sure you’ll catch up.

Welcome back.

cardibach · 05/06/2026 09:36

Thanks @MsJinks
Ive caught up on that one a bit via this thread! I’m going t9 strive t9 be well informed but not obsessed. Difficult balance to maintain when there is such fuckery around!

I am thinking that Musk is testing a theory that Musk has that Farage is/was not the man for him. With the fact that he is vulnerable to any other grifter as proof.

I mean one way of look at it, is that despite being on the BBC more often than the test card, Farage has basically hit the stops, and increasing exposure is not translating into increased support. And (more worryingly) a decrease in exposure is translating into falling support.

However I'm not here to help the far right. They can fuck off and fix it themselves. Maybe try being nice to people instead.

Yes the US government might consider taking the beam out of their own eye before commenting on the UK's mote

It is difficult - I dropped off following Trump properly with all this here. I’ve dropped off it all with life stuff too - and definitely on a holiday.

But I do a lot of other nice stuff too - plus either age or my brain idk which, but stuff falls out of my head quite fast - or is compartmentalised which sounds better ha.

Balance is definitely needed though.

Farage wasn’t outright racist/nationalistic enough for Musk I think. I think Farage realised, or at least thought, he had to present an acceptable face of racism.

I believe Reform has a ceiling of voters much more so than the main parties - I’d like to think Restore’s ceiling is even lower but I’m not sure.

Musk will probably be proved right, if this is his theory I think tbh - and Farage is Reform basically, so they’ll lose out.

Hoping Musk cash and X doesn’t improve Restore much on the back of it - maybe an endless stream of Re- parties will help failure of all. Fingers crossed.

Surely Tice should be happy they are moving to white eggs.

MsJinks · 05/06/2026 11:31

So who doesn’t want happier, healthier hens 🙈 beyond belief!

I rather liked the replies about the two tier tax system he seems silent on.

However it does betray a note of hysteria in the Reform camp. They are having to cut their brand of addictive drug with filler - the world simply isn't making enough real outrage for them.

SerendipityJane · 05/06/2026 11:34

I'm of an age to remember when all eggs were white. In plastic cartons.

PickAChew · 05/06/2026 11:45

Waitrose essentials eggs have been white for as long as I've been buying them.
