How can I keep my window partly open in the wind?

I need help with my window. I want to have it open, but not wide open. The wind coming over the river creates a lovely breeze, but it also makes thibgs fly around my room. The latch for the window isn’t wide enough, so I’m currently using yarn as string….

The hinges would usually be stiff enough to keep it in position. Is there a handle on its opposite number? You could tie string between the handles, that way you wouldn’t need to take it off.

It flings wide open with the wind and it opens really wide. I don’t want the hinges to get damaged flinging open

Bungee stretchy rope with hooks either end! Buy on line, DIY, or camping shops. Would that help?

Alternatively, engage a double glazing fitter who will do small jobs to fit a “stay” on the frame that allows a wider opening. Google your local Facebook groups for someone.

Window restrictor is the term to google. Seem to come in various types and prices, with various skill levels.

There should be metally bits on the bottom that could be tightened

I have a cat net that keeps out the bugs

I’d just wedge a piece of card in the hinge 🫣

I’ve attached images of what the latch I have already is. As you can see, it doesn’t leave the window open very wide.
