Summer grocery shopping - I'm an idiot!

Am I a complete idiot for only just realising why grocery shopping in the summer is so expensive?!

I shop "smartly" (i.e. I meal plan as much as possible, I use up leftovers, I choose things that are on offer/in season etc), but lately I've been feeling like I'm just haemorrhaging money in the supermarket. We are lucky to not be struggling but I still wince every time I pay!

I was thinking about it and it hit me like a beach ball to the head that it's because everyone's eating fresh fruit, yoghurt, salads, grilled meats and fish etc - not a cheap casserole/cottage pie/pasta bake in sight!

Am I the stupidest shopper to ever live or has anyone else had this realisation 🤣🤣

You’re totally right. I spent £80 on stuff for a casual family BBQ for 5, there was barely anything in my basket!

Yes, plus fizzy water, ice lollies, squash, watermelon, coconut water.. Aaarrgh I’ve hardly got any actual food in my cart yet and it’s costing tons.

A pasta salad (rather than a hot pasta dish) is really nice in this weather, cook the pasta in the early morning and let it cool. Add salad vegetables or ham etc and dressing whenever you want. No further cooking required at meal time.

Yes! And making everyone iced coffees, so the milk runs out every five bloomin minutes 🤣
