The lilac is a bit faded with the heat this year.
Remembering Sir Pterry on the Glorious 25th.
My favourites in the series are probably the Witches books. Currently listening to Carpe Jugulem.Flowers

Hit that Pimms early eh?

FlippantlyShe · 25/05/2026 14:35

I thought from the title that this was either going to be about sponge cakes or the revolt of the working classes.

glasshouse · 25/05/2026 14:36

All the little angels rise up, rise up.
All the little angels rise up high!
How do they rise up, rise up, rise up?
How do they rise up, rise up high?
They rise heads up, heads up, heads up,
they rise heads up, heads up high!

I totally assumed rising up of the masses (just interested in where). Vive la revolution!

I was thinking cakes too.

Find shade, op. Wet flannel. You'll be okay.

I thought ‘Yorkshire puddings or Revolution?’.

The title of my autobiography is finally settled.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 25/05/2026 14:43

Sir Terry P is the clue you need. I too thought we were worrying about the oppressed masses.

MeanwhileinGilead · 25/05/2026 14:44

I was thinking "Afghanistan, or Iran?"

But Terry Pratchett is important too, I guess.

I also feel that I have to put in a word for Towel Appreciation Day which is today too. As our lilac has all finished, but I have a washing line full of nicely drying towels, I feel I am going to come down on Douglas Adams' side today.

Just wish to add my appreciation for both.

On a serious note, I credit Maskerade with preserving what was left of my sanity.

To the Glorious Revolution of Treacle Mine Road. 🍷🍺🍾
Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love and a hard boiled egg.

For those who stand up for what they know to be right and do the job in front of them, however hard .... we salute you.

Just reread Jingo. Amazing how the man managed to be wildly funny AND brilliantly and compassionately satirical AND thoroughly prescient simultaneously.
Also, yes, the little angels are rising up.

FadedRed · 25/05/2026 15:06

Yeast or baking powder. Sourdough if you want poncy stuff that is too hard to chew.

Giraffeandthedog · 25/05/2026 15:16

Thanks for the reminder OP. I forgot it was the 25th today. Missing Sir Pterry. Will need to re-read one of his books tonight.

I think I learnt more from the streets of Ankh-Morpork than my module on political philosophy. He's a genius. I'm very jealous of anyone who is a virgin to his work and gets the joy of reading him for the first time after seeing this thread. I'll raise a glass of winkles ole peculiar for him tonight. Cheers sir p

I read the title and knew :-)
Witches and Guards series are favourites, read many times.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 25/05/2026 15:29

They rise arse up, arse up, arse up!
They rise arse up, arse up high!

Thank you to the enlightened. Its a bit sad that the year after Sir Terry died, there were threads on the anniversary of his death, I started a thread asking mn to give us lilacs(they did in a way), there was GNU Terry Pratchett. It would be sad if he became a slightly dated author. His political writing was razor sharp. I would have loved to have seen where he took the evolution of the Discworld into what would be their industial revolution. I want to know about the cuisine of Quirm, apart from lots of avec, Howandaland and Klatch.
Honestly, if you haven't, find one-they aren't hard or deep(at first)

I've still never laughed as hard at any other book as I did at Reaper Man. Never see lilac but i don't think of him, and miss him a bit, even though I never met him.

StripedPillowcase · 25/05/2026 21:23

GNU Sir Terry
