DP and I have been together for over 25 years and have finally decided to get married! DC are old enough now to be witnesses, so we're not telling a should apart from them and the 5 of us are just going to go to registrars one afternoon and get it done. Ordered wedding rings today, appointment with registrar on Weds and I'm actually abut excited!!!

Yep. We're only going to registrars them maybe much out, so don't want something too ott. Have ordered a couple of dresses from Monsoon which I can wear again. I'm a fat 50 odd year old - s&b isn't the place for me!

Dresses one can wear again are the best sort of dresses. But I do think you might explore beyond Monsoon … (Even though you’re not interested in opinions - the black is more celebratory, but a bit wintery. The other isn’t worthy of the occasion.)

We got married in secret, I couldn’t be arsed with the fuss and just wanted to be married, rather than have a wedding. It was well over 20 years ago now and one of the best things we ever did. 2 people came along as witnesses and we just told people after as and when we saw them.

Aw, love this OP! My DH and I did something similar. We didn't tell anyone except two friends who were partly chosen because they worked nearby and could pop in to witness on their lunch break. DH and I wore walking boots, he wore his best fleece, and I wore a dennim skirt and thick wool jumper. After the registry bit we left on our own and recreated aspects of our amazing first date. My cousin and her now husband did the same thing and I think went for a meal with their older children afterwards. It looked a perfect day and they all looked so happy. I hope you and your soon to be husband and your children have a wonderful day too
