Scraped someone’s car today. Feeling sick!

I was in a parking space and as I pulled out I scraped the car next to me. I left a note but was too flustered to note registration number.

As I left there was a queue of traffic behind me. I saw something out of the corner of my eye and am now panicking it was the note I left. falling off. I couldn’t stop to check due to the vehicles behind me.

I’ve notified the store, I’ve left messages anonymously on the local town messaging boards and spoken to my insurance company. I just need the other persons registration details.

is there anything else I can do?

id hate for someone to be out of pocket because of me. Hopefully it wasn’t the note falling off and I do tend to overthink stuff.

It’s criminal damage. Like it or not!

No it’s not, don’t be daft

It’s not though is it? Now OP knows what to do the next time they criminally damage someone else’s property.

It wasn't criminal damage- silly statement- we haven't all got the time to wait hours for the owner to turn up. The OP did what she could at the time.

I don’t think you will ever find the owner of the car.
If the note wasn’t firmly secured under the windscreen wipers and if it was a bit windy etc then no, the note is gone.

Monty36 · 24/05/2026 12:31

On reflection a quick photo on your phone would have sorted it. In terms of the registration etc.

DH did similar. He called police and left his details with them. They were great and said he'd reported the incident to them so had done all he could.

Do you remember the registration of the car you hit? Realistically you should’ve stayed until the owner got back.

So if the owner has parked up for shopping and lunch, you would wait several hours for them to turn up.

Perhaps you should be realistic.

Ah, you’re just stirring.

I’ve spoken to the owner now. Note was still there, just me seeing things and imagining it was the note falling off.

Insurance claim done and both cars will be fixed by them.

What a spectacularly unhelpful post

And your own is a mine of helpful information and advice to the OP?

🤣 at saying "realistically" then going on to say something quite unrealistic.

Can see its sorted now op but tbf i dont think you could have done much more than you did.
