Just had some flaked almonds on my porridge and I just feel a bit fancy. What’s the little things that feel a bit fancy?

China teacup and saucer, with a pot of tea.

Putting a biscuit on a little plate on a tray with the teapot. A tea tray means I can do anything required of me.

Perfume on my hairbrush.

Triangles of toast instead of rectangles.

Body oil after a shower and rubbing it in properly for a few minutes feels luxurious.

Flowers from the garden in a little glass.

Perfume on hairbrush is a lovely fancy idea - thank you @LadyLucksalot

Sitting on the new two-seater sofa on my own, opposite my favourite painting, away from all chores, quietly reading.

M&S dips and antipasti outside in the sun.

A £10 bottle of wine 😂

Candleabra · 24/05/2026 09:05

Drinking cordial out of a wine glass

PeatandDieselfan · 24/05/2026 09:16

Expensive soap that smells divine.

GameOfJones · 24/05/2026 11:12

Eating cake with a fork. I have cake forks at home specifically for this purpose and it always feels nicer.

Adding ice cubes and a frozen slice of lemon to a tall glass of water.

Using a body scrub in the shower and body lotion afterwards.

Sleeping in an eye mask.

Never heard of perfume on a hairbrush! Feel a bit weird about that!

Perfume on a hairbrush is lovely. It's a subtler way of wearing perfume. A little spray, a gentle brush through the hair and instant put-togetherness.

I can freeze lemon slices?!?

Nogimachi · 24/05/2026 13:52

Chocolate biscuits rather than plain ones. Attractive milk jug rather than the plastic milk bottle!

This is what I do when a recipe needs zest but no juice. I slice the rest and freeze for drinks. Otherwise in 3 weeks time I find a wizened lemon at the bottom of my fridge!

FoxandDuck · 24/05/2026 15:12

Supermarket own brand sparkling water can be pretty cheap and instantly upgrades a drink to being a proper drink to be sipped at in the sunshine

You can indeed! I always slice and freeze lemons to add to drinks as I never get through a whole one without it going off. It acts as an extra ice cube too.

Really?! We go through a net of lemons a week when cooking - no time for a lemon to go off in this house 😂

I like to think I am the sort of person who uses lots of lemons. In actual fact, I don’t, so always have a mouldy one. I have sliced and frozen one & will give the kids fancy iced lemon water.

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 24/05/2026 21:34

A tray with a cup of coffee, slice of toast or piece of cake or whatever, and a folded serviette.

DugnuttEyeBoogies · 24/05/2026 22:26

New bamboo socks in a pretty pattern

Using the best pen and the cute sticky pad to write a note

Posh double walled glass cup for coffee at my local cafe

M&S snacky bits

NotMyRealAccount · 24/05/2026 22:30

Hand made soap, especially if it's got a bit of texture to it.

CoastalCalm · 24/05/2026 22:31

Sugar cubes

Jellybean23 · 24/05/2026 22:34

Using a tray with a tray cloth.

Missohnoyoubetterdont · 24/05/2026 22:34

A proper tablecloth, a jug of flowers. Napkin and napkin rings. Sometimes I do this at breakfast at the weekend. The kids love it. ‘ We are being quite fancy today’ ( they say)

Hopefulsalmon · 24/05/2026 22:36

Using nice cloth napkins

Topping risitto with a drizzle of wxtra virgin olive oild and some seeds/chopped nuts

Having a selection if hetbs in pots on my windowsill

Elevenses - proper coffee and biscuits

Always using a fountain pen

I also freeze slices lemons and limes!

CamilleBeauchamp · 24/05/2026 22:41

Putting anything on a tray really.

And when I eat fruit, I cut it up and put it in a little bowl (those ones you get chilled puddings etc in and never know what to do with after). (Though maybe that's not fancy because I do it several times a day).

TomatoSandwiches · 24/05/2026 22:50

I often have my food on a tray but what makes me really happy are my tiny individual crystal salt and pepper pots.

And a dash of Neom bath milk and a twisted muslin tied up with oats in my big bath.

Having the time to moisturise top to toe and letting it sink in.

PashaMinaMio · 24/05/2026 22:53

Damask napkins at every meal.
Italian fine milled soaps.
Cashmere anything.
Silk anything
Bone china every day. So fine you can see the light through it.
A chiming clock on the sideboard.
Cake forks.
Good leather shoes
Decent bottle of wine, occasionally.
Sourdough bread without fkng Palm Oil in it.
Smoked Salmon
Good quality chocolate without Palm Oil
Cold pressed Olive Oil
Crystal tumblers for everyday use.
…… I could go on!
