If you found rocket growing on your patio, would you eat it?

My mum gave us some herbs from her garden in planters and we put them on our patio. She also grows rocket. I think some seeds must have come with!

I have noticed "weeds" growing in the patio and was thinking that was a job for this weekend.

Looking closer, I now see it is rocket.

Shall I just let it flourish and eat it?

There is a picture but it's under review in case it's rude 😆

Why not? Unless you are you one of these people who only eat food that comes in plastic bags?

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/05/2026 09:52

I very much do not only eat food in plastic wrap!

My rabbits would get to it before me.

Pompelly · 23/05/2026 09:54

Why wouldn't you? Free snacks!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/05/2026 10:10

I've eaten it for my breakfast. I'll update later to let you know if I've died.

That looks like London Rocket rather than rocket to me. They're both edible but London Rocket is a 'weed' and tastes much stronger.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/05/2026 11:58

@FoulBlister still ate it 😋

Yum. ?

Popcorn76 · 23/05/2026 12:03

Yes so long as no weedkillers have been used there in the past.

AnnieBond · 23/05/2026 12:03

I'll check back later !

If it is rocket then as long as you wash it thoroughly it should be fine.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 23/05/2026 12:58

Yes @FoulBlister ! I wilted it with butter, garlic and chili flakes 👍🏻

I wouldn't, but I can't stand rocket!

If I liked it, I was certain what it was, I was certain it wouldn't have been wee'd on by dogs or cats and it wouldn't have been contaminated by pesticides them I definitely would!

The pigeons would have had it here - they strip it to the bone.

Still not dead

Is that not a dandelion OP?? Maybe I'm losing the plot but that looks much more like a dandelion than any rocket I've ever grown. Still edible either way.

ThePieceHall · 24/05/2026 17:33

I would be thrilled to find free rocket growing on my path. In fact you have inspired me to go and cut a bunch of the wild fennel that is growing out of a crack in the pavement further up our street.
