Cant be arsed with the World Cup this time

Normally, this close to the World Cup, I would be getting excited. This time I feel quite flat about the whole thing. Maybe it's Trump, perhaps it's the kick-off times. I just don't seem that interested. I have watched every World Cup since 1966. I go and watch local league/non-league football lie, so I am pro football.

It does seem very flat, I've only spotted one half hearted attempt at merchandising in a shop and that's it. I'll watch England if its at a reasonable time but that's all I will bother with.
Do you remember the times when we had Paul Gascoigne and Co? We actually knew who all the players were !

You’ll probably get into it once it starts … but yeah, the time difference does spoil it somewhat!

My DS lives 15 mins from 1 of the stadiums and I am visiting for a few weeks, it’s quite flat at the moment but lots of fan watch events are planned all round the city so will pick up.

tickets prices are a complete disgrace though - no big name teams are playing and tickets are still €000,s.

I did find an Italia 2026 top for sale at 50% of ! Bought it for my Italian other half (insert evil laugh!!!)

I live in the US so I am reasonably excited for it. Got tickets to two games, and my city will have lots of big screens dotted around to watch games outside. Plus it’s over the summer so the weather will be glorious.

What world cup? ☺️

Chattygirl123 · 23/05/2026 17:54

The only WC I care about was last year the women's and next year is the men's even though my team never gets as far as I'd like. I mean RUGBY!! ☘ #IRFU

I agree. I think 48 teams is far too many to start off with.
And so many matches are in the middle of the night.
I normally love the group stage, but I think it will feel like the preliminary qualifying, not the tournament itself!

I might start watching after the group stages, but I don’t feel remotely enthused currently.

I too, have watched nearly every match of every World Cup since I was 6 years old.

I’m in Scotland so it’s a pretty big deal for us! I do think it’s a little disappointing that the time difference means we will be watching matches at 2am

ThisSunnyBea · 23/05/2026 19:43

I definitely know who all the players are @YamyamabroadI'm looking forward to the Darts World Cup in June but will watch the football even with the team selection.

Brightbluesomething · 24/05/2026 11:25

I was talking to DS about this last night and neither of us are all that bothered. And we both absolutely love football. I think it’s the KO times. Early stages aren’t ideal as they’re quite late at night, but if we do progress they get more sociable times. But given it’s England you can never be certain we will.
