Tights or no tights ?

Hoping for some advice from fellow Mumsnetters.
My DD is getting married at the end of August.Wedding is at a country house in Scotland.
My dilemma is whether I should wear tights or just have bare legs.I only normal wear black 60 denier tights in winter.
My dress stops about 5 inches above my ankle bone and the hemline is quite floaty. My shoes are slingback with enclosed toes.
I don’t have varicose veins and have quite slim legs and ankles.I would rather not wear tight ,but don’t want people to judge me as MOB for being underdressed.
I’d welcome any opinions.

No tights. If you feel your legs would look a bit pale, use that Sally Hansen leg make up.

TheChiffchaff · 22/05/2026 17:15

I don't think people would notice?
I hate wearing tights and it will be a long day if you feel uncomfortable.

HelenaWilson · 22/05/2026 17:16

With a long dress I think you'd get away with no tights.
I say that as someone whose legs are an unattractive pasty white however much sun they've had and I wouldn't inflict the sight of them on anyone.

As it's Scotland, you could have a pair in your bag in case the weather is wet and cold and you feel chilly. It's miserable being cold on a big day.

No tights. Enjoy the wedding and have a lovely day x

Thank you everyone for your input.
No tights it is then.
Now where did I put my razor 🤔

I hate wearing tights so when wearing a long dress nooooo way!

Runnermumof2 · 25/05/2026 17:12

Scottish woman here. 100% no tights
Go for a spray tan a week before if you are worried about the look of your legs (go for a practise run now so that you know what colour and how it looks )

chasetheace99 · 25/05/2026 17:21

Def no tights - I’m MOG in August and no way will I wear tights… I am trying to get a bit of colour on them before then though!

...don’t want people to judge me as MOB for being underdressed

If there are people going to the wedding who would "judge you" for not wearing tights, then your daughter needs to revise her guest list.

That's light-hearted before anyone jumps on me, but seriously?? being judged for no tights?

Daffodilsinthespring · 25/05/2026 18:19

nude tights definitely as it’s a formal occasion. I would never go to a wedding without.

Bitzee · 25/05/2026 18:35

I would personally pack a pair but only because I have terrible circulation and would expect to be freezing in Scotland! If it ended up being warm enough to ditch them then I’d be thrilled. It’s so old fashioned to think they’re a necessary part of being dressed properly.

Have you tried hold ups?
I love them esp for a formal occasion like a wedding. Finishes an outfit off and gives a more “polished” look to the outfit.
If you do go for hold ups no body lotion or talcum on your thighs otherwise they won’t grip.

Bluedenimdoglover · 25/05/2026 19:41

Take a pair. Scotland can be really cold.
