How can I pack my enormous variety of tea bags for trips?!?

At home I have 5-6 different teas - mostly herbal and not in individual packets just boxes. I travel with work and nothing I’ve tried is right to keep the different flavours separate without using loads of massive ziplock bags for 3/4 tea bags in each one which feels like a waste. They all look the same so it’s hard to tell the difference once they’re out of their boxes.

I’ve tried old school cash bags but they’re too small. I’ve tried dinner money envelopes but they’re too small.

There must be something out there - that’s likely designed for a completely different purpose - but that’s sectioned or segmented in some way to fit 3-4 different teas in….

Any inspired ideas??!

These are great quality, incredibly space saving and have a real tactile quality to them. Clicking together the different combinations is a sort of mindless fun! I bought 14 stacks of the small ones so we could carry 2 weeks worth of vitamins each. DH has the blue lids, mine are green. Now I've started putting nuts/seeds/raisins in the larger sizes - a few different varieties stacked together is a compact and handy snack. And I've just tested tea bags for you OP: 2 teabags fit comfortably in the largest size of the small stack (orange lid in the photo).

Stainless steel tiffin box?
For next time, I often get hot chocolate or tea gift selections at Christmas and I always save the boxes or tins to reuse for tea or cocoa.

I would look at boxes for sorting pills or beads/craft/art stuff or similar. Some have larger compartments

I bought a load of reusable zip loc bags for my children to take things in for lunch. The small ones would be perfect for a few tea bags and you can write on them. You then just wash them up and dry them for next time.

Costco do a variety bag of different-sized Ziploc bags that are so useful (sorry about the hideously long link):

Could you wrap each type in tin foil and put them all in a small tin box?

FieryMexicanClive · 22/05/2026 18:36

Envelopes

The smallest Ikea bags would be great for teabags. If you write on them, you could reuse them each time you go away.

Came to say exactly this. They’re very robust for resealable bags and can be used again and again.

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 22/05/2026 19:27

I love these tea tins- I have several of them along with my own refillable teabags for travelling with my favourite loose teas. They are about the size of a playing card so can fit into even the smallest of bags and coat and jeans pockets. I'm such a fan I bought additional tins to store medication and treats for my dog.

@minipieI like the trading cards idea…

What I really want is someone who can make me a beautiful but lightweight long wooden box about the size of a teabag with moveable dividers - sort of like an old school index card box and then I can fill each section and make some sections bigger than others depending on how I’m feeling.

But failing that the mini zip locks seem to be the way forward

I think the flavours would merge.

Just very small ziplocks, with a marker pen or rip one tab off the box to put in the bag.

If they've had tea bags in them they can just be refilled without faffing about washing them.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to just buy some teas at the destination?

Depends where your destination is. Even in the U.K. you can’t be sure of being anywhere near somewhere which sells even a basic necessity such as decaf Yorkshire let alone particular herbals.

Oh this is a thing of beauty!!! Need to do more research into this option.

And get to Ikea. Obvs.

Plastic accordion folder? Large pill box?

StrictlyCoffee · 22/05/2026 21:42

I just use the ziplocks for taking my teas to work/on holiday.

WhereYouLeftIt · 22/05/2026 22:13

I have these tins which I use when travelling, they're good for maybe 12 teabags each. I think I bought them from a local gift shop (I've had them for years) but they're still available on ebay, Amazon etc.

"I travel with work"
How many days worth do you need when travelling? How many different teas do you need (or do you just want to have the choice of all 6)?

We've just come back from a trip, I had DH's teabags in the smaller (0.4l) bag, I packed 20, it would have been able to hold far more; and as long as you expel the air properly there's little addition to the space the teabags take up anyway.

Add a sticky label to identify what bag holds which teabags, and you're sorted. Reusable for your next trip too,

I am a semi regular purchaser of the smell proof foil bags you
can buy on Amazon. They are reusable, sturdy, and incredibly versatile.

I buy all sorts of odd things because I am a maker/artist/crafter.

I am the most morning middle aged woman to be found. If I’ve made it onto a watchlist it is more likely because of how much glue I bought last year. No store has ever throttled my purchases of Mylar bags.

I love how invested everyone is in solving my tea dilemma!!

I have a very specific tea regimen which means I can’t rely on my destination providing those exact flavours - I’m a recovering alcoholic and I think I’ve just transferred my issues into herbal tea 😂

I have run out of time to consider this now as mental busy day but Ill come back and review all the options as soon as I’ve got time and brain space!!

Well done, herbal teas is a great transfer 💕.

My favourites are the little Twinings pocket tins (they come in packs of 3 different colours on the twinings website as well). No-where near as pretty, but you could also try bead or jewelery storage boxes https://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/plastic-storage-box-12cm-x-8cm/6289531000.html

I make teabag wallets, and sell them on Etsy. They have 4 pockets for individual teabags, but I could make a bigger one with more pockets. My shop is SewnByShelley.

IKEA sell a small pack of sandwich bags, look for the black and yellow ones. They're great for just a few tea bags and reusable.

Some of the ideas here are a lot better and look smarter but definitely grab a pack next time you're in IKEA - they're useful for all sorts of things.
