How can I pack my enormous variety of tea bags for trips?!?

At home I have 5-6 different teas - mostly herbal and not in individual packets just boxes. I travel with work and nothing I’ve tried is right to keep the different flavours separate without using loads of massive ziplock bags for 3/4 tea bags in each one which feels like a waste. They all look the same so it’s hard to tell the difference once they’re out of their boxes.

I’ve tried old school cash bags but they’re too small. I’ve tried dinner money envelopes but they’re too small.

There must be something out there - that’s likely designed for a completely different purpose - but that’s sectioned or segmented in some way to fit 3-4 different teas in….

Any inspired ideas??!

This looks like an excellent solution!

Yes I was pretty impressed myself!

I'd not want to put my loose tea in plastic bags or tubs. Instead I'd put each type in small paper envelopes and then pack them all together in a small tin.
You could also use those dinner money envelopes if you could be arsed to portion individual servings.

Sainsbury’s do a good size small zip lock bag.

mathanxiety · 22/05/2026 04:17

Write the intended contents on the plastic bags with permanent marker. Place the teabags into the correct bag.

Sgtmajormummy · 22/05/2026 05:23

I’ve seen people heat a knife and cut/seal ziplock bags to a smaller size.
What about a concertina-style credit card holder? You could probably get 2 wrapped teabags in each section.

More like just one.

@minipieI like the trading cards idea…

What I really want is someone who can make me a beautiful but lightweight long wooden box about the size of a teabag with moveable dividers - sort of like an old school index card box and then I can fill each section and make some sections bigger than others depending on how I’m feeling.

But failing that the mini zip locks seem to be the way forward

Do you know anyone with a 3d printer? Ds would print me something like that (not wood!) in a few hours.

A few travel teabag tins?

I also use mini ziplock bags and tear off a bit of the box for a label. I think that any of the ideas that aren’t individually airtight per flavour risk an unpleasant flavour melding.

If you travel for work, surely you stay in hotels where teabags are widely available? Confused Even abroad I have never had a problem finding fruit or herbal tea. Could not be faffed to pack up and transport 17 different kinds of teabags or whatever.

Make it then?

How about a wooden pencil box? Make your own dividers out of card:

I'm a fan of tea and have loads of flavours too, I buy the individual wrapped ones for work. I've got stashes in my laptop bag and suitcase! I tried the wee baggies, but all the flavours merge and they just don't stay fresh.

Although you don’t like the idea of ziplock bags if you labelled each bag with the flavour you could reuse them. I reuse ones that I bag portions of our dog’s kibble in and it works well.

JonathanGirl · 22/05/2026 07:33

Surely the best solution is just to buy some individually wrapped tea bags for travel purposes?

Then they will be clearly labelled, and the taste won’t merge, and you can just save the loose ones for home.

Pukka do loads of individually wrapped herbal teas, for example, as do Twinings - even if they’re not your usual ones surely they’d be enjoyable enough when travelling?

Otherwise, Twinings sell little travel tins which fit maybe 5 teabags in - you could get a few of those.

Oh my god I’ve just realised I'm about to buy a load of drugs bags!!!

You should see how I prepare supplement bags for the horse. Each bag is one days dose to put in feed. It will be an interesting conversation if ever I'm pulled over by the police!

Wouldn’t it make more sense to just buy some teas at the destination?
