Best way to book a punting trip in Cambridge?

Hello! I'm staying in Cambridge and wondering if anyone has any tips re: booking a punting excursion? Our hotel recommends to book through the concierge for a discount; does anyone know if this is generally a good idea or if hotels have partnerships with more tourist-trappy places?

Thanks for anyone who is kind enough to share their knowledge! 🙏🏻

Scudsmores is the most well known. You can book direct with them online or last time I was there you can just wait by the bridge and get in the next boat.

You will need to know:
Are you self punting or do you need someone doing the pole? (can't remember the technical term)
Do you want to go along the backs to see the colleges, or up through countryside towards Granchester?

We (just my husband & I) will be having someone doing the pole 😸 and we are looking for the backs of the colleges. Thanks for these points!

There isn't really a non-tourist-trappy way of punting along the Backs, as it's all the same river. I'd just take the hotel discount.

Thank you all! My husband has apparently just booked with the concierge - "Let's Go Punting" 😅 thanks again, looking forward to enjoying the beautiful sights with the lovely weather we're luckily having here!

Just be warned they’ll tell you a few stories along the way, not all may be entirely true 😂!

And if it’s your thing a trip to the Cambridge gin place is worth while…. And sit in the sun with a drink by the Mill pub.

Enjoy. We went about three weeks ago. We were self punting with Scudamore's. I think it cost about £40.

We could do it this way because my DD and her friend can punt. I wouldn't have the balance to stand upright on the boat and drive it along using the great long pole.

The punting trip was lovely!! I did encounter a few hilarious reviews in my research if anyone is so inclined 🤣

Thank you!! That sounds right up my alley as a matter of fact 😸
